PayPal now charging to send money as a gift
« on: December 22, 2013, 13:08:42 PM »
PayPal now charging to send money as a gift which is extremely annoying and may be worth noting for those sending money to the 3C's and Animal Aid and also for the fundraisers that sometimes take place on the forum.

It does calculate the amount for you - for example I was going to send £46 and it would have cost just under 50p.

Yes John - I often used as a means of sending money to friends and family who aren't set up on my bank transfer list which is a pain (virtually impossible) to set from abroad.

There is an option to transfer for free but you have make a payment from your bank account to your paypal account and then pay from your paypal balance. It is straight forward if you use internet banking and the funds appear immediately in your paypal account, so you can then make the transfer. If you opt to use the "receiver pays" option, PayPal then request a payment from your bank which can take 2-3 days.

So to be clear - if I have sufficient balance in my paypal account to cover the amount of money I want to send, then I can send it for free.

Sorry to be thicker than normal.  :)
