Controversial e-visa for Turkey postponed

Tuesday 28 January 2014

The introduction of the controversial digital visa Dutch and other holidaymakers would have to buy before travelling to Turkey has been postponed.

Visitors have always been issued with a visa on their arrival in Turkey, but the new digital visa has to be ordered in advance and printed out. Payment is by credit card.

The new system was due to be introduced on April 10, but complaints from international travel agents that the notice was too short and would cause chaos has led to the postponement of the e-visa until November 2014.

This year, over a million Dutch people have booked a holiday in Turkey.

So does this mean its back to a tenner in your passport again?  I bet the poor person who got charged £55 will be well happy, and what happens to the people who jumped the gun and already have their e-visas?  Any ideas?

Not sure I'd give much credence to this, at least not yet. The only source of this information seems to be one Dutch newspaper!

The e-visa system was running last year along side the £10.00 bought at the airport visa, so no problem if you have bought one already.
I think I will wait and see what happens here as Phil says it's only one report up to now.

As Jacqui says the e-visa worked alongside the £10 on arrival set up but this just goes to show that things can change in the blink of an eye in Turkey.

This news was written in De Telegraaf (not exactly known for reliability) and there's nothing in the Turkish media.

Is that because she chucked you over in favour of a Dutch bloke?

It's not like the Turkish authorities to introduce something then suspend it or change it.
