There are still bargain B.&.B's in the U.K.
« on: March 11, 2014, 08:31:16 AM »
My son got a job which is down the coast near Montrose and it will take a few days, so he decided to book a B.&.B. as it was more economical that driving there and back each night.
He rang me last night and told me the B.&.B. is a beautiful house and the lady owner seemed like a lovely lady.  His en suite room is large and well furnished and has a double bed.  There is T.V. with Sky and WIFI.  All for £30.00 per night.  Amazing when I think that a lot of the big Hotels in Aberdeen don't offer as much as this place and some charge £140.00 per night..
He seems very impressed.  It just shows there are still places that offer bargain accommodation.

We book hotels and B&B every year for our trips to Scotland, I don't think we have ever paid more than £50 for a double room,  3 years ago we stayed on the Black Isle, a beautiful little B&B Run by an equally lovely couple Chick and June, Braigha http://www.black-isle-bed-and-breakfast.co.uk/  £25per person. loved this place home from home,   maybe again this year.

A few we have booked, Fort Augustus  £150 for 2 nights  Bo'ness 2 nights for the children fair
for both of us pushed the boat out there   ;)  B&B
Callander £45 one night B&B
and a few others at no more than £50 per night, obviously all doubles for 2.
Can't wait.

I will get the details from my son and post them here.  I did ask him last night the name of the place which he had forgotten... It's two minutes from the work he is doing and bonus for him...there is a Curry House 5 minutes down the road.    ;) ;D

No passport needed yet Kevin but you could buy a kilt and blend in.  :o ;D

Loz, if you are in the Black Isle call in to Cathedral Antiques in Fortrose and see friends of mine Mike and Trish MacCall.   They have some lovely stuff all bought in local clearances and their place is a listed building.

Jacqui, as you are a very welcome "interloper ", but an interloper just the same, it behooves me to point out to you that the word "clearances", should NEVER be written nor uttered in connection with any subject regarding The Scottish Highlands !! ;-)  You may receive a request from the Scottish Sincerity Board requesting that you attend a specially convened meeting at Invercockaleekie Castle, in order to swear an oath of allegiance to the Thistle & Crown of Scotland.
On a more serious note, as my Darling Loz has said, "Braigha " near Culbokie, on the Black Isle, is probably the best B&B we have ever stayed, in a most beautiful setting, well worth the long drive from Hampshire !!

Sorry Gordon, us people in the Antiques Business, even in Scotland always use that word. The MacCalls are a lovely couple, He was once a Bank Manager and gave it up to start his business. His daughter has become quite well know in Scotland as a fiddle player and is very successful.  He always has lovely items, and lots of dealers call in and buy from him to re-sell.  However, anything I have bought from him I have had to keep.
Will take a note of your B.&.B. we often have a scoot away at the weekends..thanks.
