Trainer having had 6wks in Jan/Feb there did not appear to be any increases to dolmush/meals/drink prices. As far as shopping for clothes etc it was just the opposite lots of bargains as prices by and large were geared up for the local Turkish community. Men's Wear particularly were excellent value whether in shops or markets. Obviously the exchange rate being (as high as 3.80 in change shops)did have a bearing on this.

I wasn't that bothered about the price of Efes   ;) I prefer miller but I am interested in the general price of things I do realise that everything is relative but was wondering weather the state of the Turkish economy had started to impact on the local economy or are the local business's using the economy as an excuse to put up prises and make a quick profit

I don't consider Efes to be a particularly great bear.  I  prefer Guinness.   However, given a choice to be sitting in front of my nice warm fire with a pint of Guinness in Coatbridge, or sitting outside in the sun at the promenade in Calis with an Efes, draught/draft  or otherwise, I personally would choose the Efes scenario.

Before we discovered Calis/Fethiye, we used to visit Salou in Spain.  There we found evidence that businesses put up prices at holiday times. I wouldn't think that they would do it at Calis. I think the locals who live there all year round and whose wages dont increase that much would have something to say about  prices going up on their daily shopping...... Having said that I can name two restaurants that do so as we have eaten there before and during holiday season.  Drinks mainly.  To be honest though, I dont really feel any resentment towards businesses who try to capitalise on the tourist industry.  Some of these guys are really struggling and they do work some silly hours for their money.

It seems that prices are going up for anything imported. One of the price hikes recently for us is an extra 25 tl for our animals rabies blood tests as the vet said they import the chemicals used for the tests.
Also, Shanghai Blues didnt have any take a way menus, they told us that the prices are going up so new menus being printed.
But apart from that, and BIM chips going up sharply by nearly 2 tl a bag, haven't noticed any differences.

Psychologically everything seems cheaper because I tend to still convert back to  £'s, so our Dyson was cheaper here than buying in the UK, whereas electrical stuff was always previously always cheaper in the UK.
Great for tourists who when converting will see everything as cheaper, but doesn't really make a difference when your working in TL all the time.

Well I was just charged 1 TL for a large glass of tonic at the Lighthouse restaurant. But they did add 10 percent service charge. Then on our total bill gave me 4 TL  too much in the change. Total bill for 2 tonic 1coke, 2 cappuccino coffees 1 filter coffee, 1 large portion of chocolate cake, 1 meatballs with chips and salad was 40 TL .£11
Chinese takeaway from Shanghai Blues more than enough for 2 people 25 TL.£7
That seems pretty good to me.bh

I would not say the exchange rate has made prices alter, but I would think prices will increase in restaurants, once they are open and have fixed their prices for the coming season. I cannot see how they cannot, when their own basic costs rise each year. But Fethiye and Calis have such a great choice of places to eat and drink, some cheaper, some more expensive, that all tastes and economies can be catered for.

Yep - our maintenance company who charge for cleaning in TL have hiked their price by close on 50% . Converting back to sterling its only a couple of quid dearer than last year so I suppose they think they can get away with it. Every reason for the increase was given - apart from the fact they think THEY - not US should benefit from the exchange rate.
