Local Elections
« on: March 30, 2014, 12:52:51 PM »

Hurriyet will be streaming live election results for one of the most significant elections for years. Results expected from 19.00 Turkish time/18.00 BST. The key result to look out for seems to be whether CHP can take the post of Istanbul Mayor from AKP (but given the size of the city's electorate - approx. 10m voters - I guess it will come in late in the evening or tomorrow. 1 million Instanbulites are reported to have left by bus in the last two days to get back to their home towns to vote. Imagine what Istanbul Central Bus Station has been like!

Let's hope the results aren't already compiled and just waiting to be released!

2 people dead in Hatay after fight.

4 people dead in Şanlıurfa.

Topless women protest at RTE's polling station.

Tweets allege but this is not confirmed by any other source that carrier bags of pre stamped ballots papers for AKP have been found in Istanbul and Ankara.

And everyone having a laugh about RTE jacket... Not sure what that's about.

Doğan is on official election duty locally and he says it is very busy.

Results can be viewed as they are announced here: Haberler

In another count, the death toll so far, all election related, stands at eight.

Whilst our attention is directed towards possible electoral finagling by AKP in Turkey I note that the top story in today's New York Times is about possible electoral finagling by the Republican Party in the USA.

Thanks for the links to the results sites, I was hoping to find something like these to inform me of what is going on, both nationally and locally.  I am a psephologist of the UK political scene of many years, and I am keen to see what happens here in Turkey.

Loved the story of the carrier bags full of pre stamped ballots .... as they say in many parts of Ireland - only part tounge in cheek -  vote early and vote often  ;)

You'd better rush out and buy Dogan one of these before they are all sold out. This season's must-have.
