Trip up Babadag
« on: April 20, 2014, 15:00:31 PM »
My friend is coming out next weekend for 2 weeks and I'm thinking of things we can do while she's here. I fancy a day trip going up Babadag, not to jump off, just to enjoy the scenery! I've read somewhere there is a dolmus that goes up, does anyone know if it goes from Fethiye, or whether you have to get to Olu Deniz first and get the dolmus from there ? I'm planning the usual boat trips, nice meals out, we've done most of the touristy stuff, Pamukale, Saklikent, Tlos, Dalyan, Gocek, can anybody suggest anything different to do while she's here? All suggestions will be much appreciated, thanks. We don't have any transport by the way.

There is a restaurant at the top of Babbadag, but I don't want to chance that road, I hear it's pretty scary.  Good luck
Have you been out to Kayakoy?  Some nice restaurants out there and some will pick up and drop off for free.  I could recommend the Istanbul for a good Saturday night out.  Also the Levissi Garden which is right next to the Ghost Village and has a huge wine cellar, they will let you do tastings.
Have you been to the Turkish Delight Factory in Calis Beach?  See it being made and sample some before you buy.
Kalkan is a lovely place for a day out and a chilled lunch at one of the Harbour Restaurants.  There is a direct bus from Fethiye.

Thanks Jacqui, some good ideas there. I live close to the Turkish delight factory, but wouldn't have thought of that one! Thanks

I'm not sure about the Dolmus, but what I would say is that a journey to the top is worth it.  If you have a car or access to one, then you might consider a drive up yourself.  It is not a bad drive, and believe or not as you hit the final quarter or third away from the top, well at least the cafe, the road improves a lot.  Just take your time, treat it as an adventure and enjoy it, it is worth the effort.

They have a good website and you can see all of their trips etc. Even if you don,t use them. I liked the thought of their private tour for summat different. Have all the fun, i,m really jelous x

The dolmuş ride up is definitely a white-knuckle ride!  A pleasant relaxing day is to be had at Olive Garden in Kabak (good views from there, excellent food).  Both dolmuş can be caught in Ölüdeniz, and if it is more convenient for you the Kabak bus can be caught in Fethiye by the large mosque.

What about learning to scuba dive? Just preliminaries for a day.

There's a good female teacher in Calis. I'll let you have the details if you are interested.

My daughter loved hiring bikes from Doga Bisiklet on BMB and cycling on the proms/cycle lane when she was here. They do 3 wheelers too.

(I'm tempted to do the Babadag trip in my car ....... those views must be breathtaking.)

Patara beach is definitely worth spending a day on. 11 miles of lovely SAND and the sea stays shallow for a long way out. Beach cafe that does NOT rip you off (unlike the Bozkurt Cafe on GEMILER beach). I am sorry but I dont know if there is a dolmus that takes you to Patara from Fethiye.

Hope you have a lovely time both of you   :)
