Travel Republic
« on: April 20, 2014, 17:26:13 PM »
I booked my hotel in Calis via Travel Republic at the end of last year and paid the minimum deposit.  A few weeks ago I learned that the company they had made the reservation with, On Holiday Group had gone into administration, so I rang Travel Republic.  The told me that another company were taking over the reservations and "not to worry, everything remained the same".  The manager of the hotel contacted me to say that they did not have a reservation for me so I explained the situation.  I then contacted TR again and was assured everything was fine but they had a backlog of 4,000 bookings and were attending to them in date order.  This afternoon I received an e-mail from TR to say that the second company eurobeds.com had also gone into administration and if I wanted to re-book, I should contact them.  I checked the various web sites to check the prices and was astonished at what was being quoted.   I then rang TR who confirmed availability for half board, which I certainly did not want and the additional cost was £120.  I explained that I have to follow special diet and did not want half board but this is all that is available.  As there are just six weeks before my holiday and with flights booked, this is a bit upsetting.  The hotels must be going crackers with all this going on.  It makes me think that I shall be looking for alternative ways to book in future.  Lots of people must be in the same situation.

I would get in touch with the hotel directly and see if you can do a deal. They will probably be losing out too if Companies have gone under. Got to be worth a try. You should be able to claim what you've paid so far back, but this could be a time consuming process. Hope you get it sorted

Does it make a difference if you paid by credit card? Isn't the cost insured by the card?

This is worrying - we also booked the Aymes for June, and received an email advising there was a problem, we were unable to rebook the Aymes so have booked elsewhere.  Hope we don't get yet another email as we have less than 6 weeks to go.   Fingers crossed.

I'm going on 1 June.  It makes me mad that there IS availability BUT at an extra £120.  It smacks of extortion and the hotel probably wont gain much more.  Ramazan the manager is an honest man who does everything by the book so when I offered to pay him direct he politely asked me to book through the 'travel agency'.  The hotel wont get paid for On Holiday Group's customers from last year so they are losing a lot of money.  If people don't want to pay the increase and go elsewhere then lots of hotels will lose out.  Travel Republic said that people can have a full refund if they wish but what good is that when all the good deals were booked months ago?   Will keep you posted.

I had the same problem a  couple of years ago when I booked The Palin hotel. Admittedly, it seemed a really good price when I booked it through Travel Republic. Their agent in Turkey was Jumbo Tours. I received an email from them saying the hotel was fully booked and offered me an alternative. I phoned the Palin and it turned out that Jumbo Tours was quoting such a ridiculously cheap price for the rooms, that the Pelin couldn't honour at such a price. They heads of accommodation as it turned out.
