BBQ In Calis Beach

Hi All

This is my first post on here so not to sure if I am even doing this right. I am coming to Calis Beach in August and will be renting accommodation that has it's own BBQ. I was wondering if there are any local shops such as a butchers or a market where fresh meat can be bought to cook on the BBQ. Also this may be a stupid question but is it easy to get charcoal in local shops there. any information anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.

There are a number of supermarkets in Calis so you can get charcoal no bother,  We usually buy the bags you just light, they are much easier that messing around with firelighters.   
Also the Supermarkets have butchery counters.  If you go to the Market on Sunday, there is a fresh chicken shop with refrigerated cabinets, the chicken is cheap and very good.
There is also a good butcher at the entrance to the Fruit & Veg Market in Fethiye, if you want steak his is the best.  Also, next door to the Fruit & Veg Market is the Fish Market, there you can buy fresh fish and huge prawns that are great for BBQ's

John there are small supermarkets in Calis selling chicken, kofte burgers etc. Depending on where you are staying there are butchers in the big supermarkets charcoal is available from most small shops, you will have no problems finding what you need.

First of all, welcome to the Forum booty81. Fresh meat is available almost any where in supermarkets, or butchers shops, ( Kasap). Meat has become very expensive in Turkey, and the cuts are different from those in the U.K. Chicken USED to be quite " cheep," ( pun intended ), but not any more. Having said all that, no better thing to have than a barbie, ( Mangal ), on your balcony with some friends, a few bottles of " vino collapso ", and a few cases of Efes. !! Enjoy !!     

Charcoal is available EVERYWHERE !!  ( mangal kömürü ). is the Turkish for charcoal .

I think the chicken has been very cheap at the Sunday Market, we always buy it there. However, if you ask for 4 breasts you get 8 as they judge a breast is both sides of the chicken and not just one side.  We got a surprise the first time we bought chicken.

when did u last buy chicken in sunday market? not as cheap as it used to be. still reasonable. Gordon a. meat still very expensive but ur rich. lol

We have bought chicken in the Sunday market for years and September was the last time, so will have to see next month if I need a second mortgage to buy chicken or not, will report back.

One warning with the charcoal - it's rubbish and spits at you like a coal fire!

Stand well back until it gets hot!  Maybe the self lighting one is better but I've not tried that. Anyway we have a gas contraption now  

Meat is widely available and many places will make their own burgers. We always have a couple of barbies every time we visit. Nothing better than a few beers, wine, salad and meat shared with our neighbours

Stoop you forgot about the chips!! You always have to have chips and salad in Turkey.  Its the rules!!

The bags are excellent we stop using the charcoal a long time ago.   We used to have a gas BBQ here in Scotland, but got rid of it for a proper BBQ.  We thought we might as well be cooking it in the house and taking it out as cooking with gas does not flavour the meat like a BBQ does.
A couple of years ago, we had a BBQ and the next day went off to Rhodes for a couple of days. When we returned our BBQ was in the Turkish neighbours next door.  They just came over and took it for a BBQ of their own.  Needless to say we nipped over and took it back, but it really needed a good clean.
