My town of Helensburgh, a coastal town 25 miles north of Glasgow, home of Henry Bell, engineer who is famed for introducing the first successful passenger steamboat service in Europe. Home also to John Logie Baird, innovator and inventor of the world's first television. Hill House, a building which is universally regarded as Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s finest domestic creation.
The large naval base, housing the Trident submarines in Faslane, is 8 miles from town, and the beautiful Loch Lomond is a mere 5 miles away.
Other famous names are Deborah Kerr, Actress, Andrew Bonnar Law, former British Prime Minister, A.J Cronin, novelist, Jimmy Logan, a Scottish performer, producer, impresario and director, Marti Pellow from Wet Wet Wet, Walter Smith, football Manager, Murdo McLeod, former footballer and TV pundit, Gary Orr, Golfer to name but a few.
