Turkish Lira
« on: May 18, 2014, 09:11:10 AM »
Hi All

I am traveling to Turkey in August. I have seen that there may be issues with the Turkish Lira and that it may be coming down again. I have seen it in my local Tesco for around 3.40 to the £. Would anyone recommend purchasing my Lira now or wait until I get to Turkey to change my money.

Many Thanks

John

No one can predict which way the lira is going to go, or what it's likely to be in August.
However, given that 3.40 is an excellent rate at the moment why not change half your money now, and gamble on leaving the other half till you get here in August. You will always get a better rate changing your money here in the bank, I got 3.52 the other day.

In general, l I find that 50% of people say it will go up, and the rest say it will go down. Usually, half of them are right.

Presidential elections in August so you might find that you'll get more then due to the usual volatility of the financial markets  because of that  :o :o

3.40 to the pound is still a very good rate, I would definitely get some now, if it goes up later its a bonus and you can get some more, but has  already been said, in general, you get a better rate in Turkey.

You'd have been better off offering them pound notes instead.  ;)
