Just arrived home from a lovely holiday in Turkey, on the flight home. Happened to be sitting next to a couple who we met on the way out.Talk turned to Dalaman airport arrival 10 days ago, unfortunately because of 6 flights arriving in a short time their wait to get through took nearly 2 hours.they had forgotten to apply for their e-visas as did many others and were CHARGED £20 EACH at the desk is this another scam or is it the penalty for not getting their e-visa?

Presently you have a choice, either $20 online or £20 at the airport - I think eventually it will all be done online.

No seegeekay it is not a penelty, it is the way it is now since they have done away with the £10 visa, $20 dollars online or £20 at airport i know what i did, if you didnt know the ins and outs of it, you will get stung for the £20 visa. It will eventually go down the route of evisa only and very soon i think.

The change to e visas was scheduled for 10th April 2014. However it was postponed to December 2014 because people and tour operators were not up to date on the situation. After December it will be e visa only but visa machines at Dalaman have been mentioned.

I was chatting to the couple who sat beside me on our Easyjet flight and I mentioned the E-Visa, but they said they knew nothing about it - although I think Easyjet do remind you.  Anyway, after they went and got their £20 each visa they were not too impressed -but lesson learned.

It is mentioned on the Easyjet website where you supply your advanced passenger info.

As Turkey is not an EU country you would think people would find out the Visa requirements anyway

It's not a penalty, at one point earlier this year the situation was that if you arrived without your e visa they weren't going to let you into the country, but ship you back home on the next flight!  After much outcry they extended the deadline for the e visa and are allowing people who arrive without one to purchase one here, in manned kiosks. Ok, you pay an extra £7, but would you rather that or turn round and fly back to where you came from ?

There are reminders at every stage of booking, even on the hotel websites. On saying that my son and family have booked for September and when i mentioned the e-visa to him he said "didn't see that anywhere" !!!!!!!
