Turkey Does the Best in the Wo rld...
« on: June 07, 2014, 00:30:49 AM »
From another CBF topic where Rimms said in his opinion Turkish bread was the best in the World - I wondered what Turkish things, or things about Turkey, do you think are the best in the World.

As a starter, as I think I have many, I believe Turkish mayonnaise is without the best mayonnaise in a bottle (yes I am sure it can be made fresh and that would be great but off the shelf) - I'm sure it is far from slimline or healthy but my vote goes to the remarkable

Turkish mayonnaise   :D

Ice creams. Considering the supermarkets consist mainly of aisles and aisles of natural yogurt and turnip juice the choice of Ice cream over here is excellent.
And BIM caramel ice cream is to die for.
Spotted 2 new ones this week on my list to try, Magnum ganache and chilli, and a white chocolate with caramel filling one in the 75 kurus Algida range.

Also, kadayif, baklava, and Kunefe are wonderful.

And after being here 3 years I've just discovered Katmer... It's a bit like a pancake and filled with Tahin and sugar is amazing.
One of the market pancake stalls does, try it!

So my vote is
Ice cream and anything with a million calories per slice.

I too love the ice cream, also the honey, and the butter, it's so hard to diet here in Turkey !
Oh, and the double yolked eggs I get from the market, and... why do the strawberries here taste so...well...strawberryish? It would be nice to be able to get some Cornish clotted cream to go on them though, lol.

Have you tried Kaymak ? It's a clotted cream sold in supermarkets.

Bim Kaymak is the best.

Kaymak which can be bought in any supermarket but cheapest in Bim or A101 is Turkish clotted cream. No vile UHT totally fresh and yummy.

Seasonal fruit will always taste better and the strawberries here are not forced to grow out of season although the early strawberries are not as sweet as they are at the moment. I freeze strawberries so I have some throughout the year. They are excellent for the skin.

At the moment my daily seasonal fruit juice is strawberries, honey melon and the juice of one squeezing orange, home produced honey with a few walnuts and hazelnuts and a teaspoon of coconut oil. Delicious.
