As regards Tomatoes - Cucumber - Lettuce etc - I was involved in Fruit & Veg in the UK for 25 years.

I took a group of buyers from all the major hotel and pub chains to Holland to see the Dutch Produce being grown and auctioned and we also went to a research lab. The scientist at the lab showed us how they could increase shelf life of things like berries by irradiating them and giving us "a whole 4 weeks additional shelf life" - he then showed us an Iceberg Lettuce which had a very tiny black spot on it and said "we are currently cloning lettuce by emulsifying them and we will be able to reproduce 1,000,000 lettuce and "zay vill all av the little black spot" - he was clearly very proud of this - but when the buyer from Harvester said "what about the taste?" - he said "ah ve are trying to make the taste better but it is difficult"

Sums it all up really and at the time Holland was the garden of Europe.

That reminds me - Jerry boat courgette - I wouldn't thank you for such a veg, until trying this. Sensational.

In regard to crops and what is sprayed on them. In tank storage, I have many years of experience for tank coatings. Petrochemical, pharmaceutical, 98% hydrochloric acid we can do. The chemicals they spray on crops, forget it.

Chicken - don't know what I have been eating in the UK but it doesn't taste like chicken (Gill just about to dish some out now)  - and even the BIM chicken tastes good here and goes so much further :-)
