Fethiye population/Koycegiz lake
« on: June 10, 2014, 09:51:14 AM »
Had a day out in Koycegiz yesterday (1.5hrs from FETHIYE otogar) first time for us visiting this vast fresh lake and co-coincided with it (Mon)being market day.Plenty of boats (similar to Dalyan)going in and out of this tributary to caunos for sunbathing etc.
On return noticed the new population sign on the highway into Fethiye....140,000 !!!! previously 114th and 97th and way back in 1998 20th.. some increase!!!  :)

Its because of the change of boundaries which came in on March 31st.  Lots of surrounding villages now come under Fethiye.

Koycegiz is a lovely place. I even forgive it for being the home of a street cat that attacked me, ripped deep gashes across three fingers and left me gushing blood all over the place. Fortunately, whilst the waiters in the lake front restaurant shrugged in the usual Turkish way {"Inshallah"}, a guy at the next table was an off-duty medic from Dalaman Airport who carried antiseptic with him and who treated me. It even left me feeling good about Dalaman Airport - for a while.

I remember many a pleasant weekend in Koycegiz. There was a lovely pide/cay place called the Istanbul in a very narrow street, with another similar establishment across the road. Whenever the sun was out, the tables appeared outside. If you were sitting on the street side of the table, and a van came up the street, you (and those in the restaurant opposite) had to pull your chairs in a bit  :)

a regular service.Ask to be dropped of at Koycegiz bus stn and a local dolmush will take you into centre. Takes only 2/3 mins and costs 1.5tl per pers.
