Holiday Review
« on: June 18, 2014, 11:15:26 AM »
We have just returned from 15 fantastic days in Calis.  As we went over to put our apartment on the market, I thought you may like to read a review of our holiday  :)

We have spent around 10 weeks a year in Turkey over the last 7 or 8 years, and decided now is a good time to sell our lovely 3 bedroomed duplex apartment, as hubby has just taken early retirement.  I know most people will say that this is the best time to KEEP the apartment, but we made the decision to try and sell, so that we could do all the other things on our "to do" list and so need the money from the sale.

On arrival (and it's been 8 months since our last visit - the longest time we have left between visits since buying the apartment 7 years ago), we were taken aback by the amount of work done in our area (top end of Gunlukbasi, near the football pitch).  The block paying looks fab, and we have finally got a block paved parking area, and nice borders, with small trees and plants!  The football pitch has fab new fencing around it.  In fact, our apartment and the area around it has never looked better!!!!  I was never keen to sell anyway, but hubby had just about talked me into it!  However ....... even he had to admit that it all looks lovely there, and by the end of the first evening, he said that we would be mad to sell and that we should make the most of it, even if only for a couple more years!   :)   :)   :)

We had some great days/nights out:-

- Rod Stewart at Vojo's was just brilliant (Calis needs this type of entertainment - I have never seen so many people gathered around one bar!  Thanks Volkan and Jo for a great night (the fish and chips were very good too  :)); your staff worked their socks off that night!

- Sampler day at Mozaic Bahce was fantastic value for money.  A great afternoon (we had a job to move by the time we left there!)  Thanks Nichola and Dogan, we thoroughly enjoyed it and would really recommend it to others.

- A fantastic evening at the Ada Restaurant out on Sovalye Island.  Wow, what a setting!  The staff were very attentive and the food was exceptional.  It is slightly more expensive than other places, but including the little boat trip over which was fun, starters for 3 people, mains for four (including 2 steak dishes, a fish skewer, and lamb chop meal), one dessert, two bottles of wine (guess who drank them?   :) ), numerous beers and bottles of water, plus complimentary Amorettos, the bill was 400 lira.  A bargain in my books.  Will definitely go there again.

- A great evening spent at the Istanbul restaurant in Kaya.  If you like live music, you'll love it here on a Saturday night.  The singer was amazing (very much like Amy Winehouse) and her husband was the best sax player ever!  Had a fab time here, with free transfers to and from Kaya.  Thanks Engin for a great night.

- Talking of live music, we also spent a lovely evening at the Deep Blue Bar in Fethiye (we love it here, the staff and setting are great).  A band were playing; they were very good, just a shame a lot of other people didn't appreciate just how good they were, as they sat around talking.  We also got to meet Julia and Barry from the Turkey for Life blog, who were both lovely.

- A lovely meal at Mancera with a beautiful setting = another great night out.  Yilderin is the best waiter/manager we have ever met.  Well done to him and to the management who took over Shaka.  Another very impressive restaurant which deserves to do well.

- A few relaxing afternoon visits to our favourite beach spot at Guvens.  We love it there, and Carole and Guven are just the nicest people you can wish to meet.

I'm sure there are things I have missed off here, but, as you can see, we had an amazing two weeks and I GET TO KEEP MY LOVELY APARTMENT for a bit longer  :)   :)   :)

I must also thank all the lovely people who we met with whilst there (you know who you are!) plus a couple of new ones.  Just to completely ruin his grumpy, bad boy, image - I must say that Gordon was delightful, a true gentleman, with an amazing voice.  Lovely to meet you Gordon and your lovely wife Loz.

Oh well that's it till our next visit!  Which, incidentally, is only TWO WEEKS away!  Yep, we're loving this early retirement lark!!!!   :)   :)

Seems you had a good time.  I don't know how you can bear to part with your place, but if you need to see more of the world, then I hope you enjoy your future travels.
Agree about the Ada, for us, it's now the best place to eat bar none in the area.  Also the Istanbul our second evening visit and Yil and Nat are fabulous.  Nat used to sing with Amy Winehouse.   This is such a great night of entertainment.  Engin is an enthusiastic  host.   We have also been for lunch on a few occasions and the lunch there is lovely have never tasted such good bread as the whole loaf fresh loaf (baked on he premises) that they serve.

Lovely review. Just back ourselves from 8 days and didn't do anything like you did, fish market, olu deniz and boat trip that's it! Loved every second though. Didn't stay at our place as we were in a group in an AI , manas park, and it was fantastic so didn't miss chez nous at all! I can empathise with your thinking re selling and then not though we are currently in that 'head space' but plenty more time yet to contemplate! Bumped into grumpy drawers himself one evening and had a lovely hug and can confirm he was a gentleman! Sadly didn't see loz this time though x

Yes and we need plenty more holiday reviews - ours stay for people to search and benefit from, unlike Facebook where they are impossible to find 24 hours later. Holiday reviews, restaurant reviews, day trip reviews - they all keep CBF alive.
