Hi Stargazer
Its a great trip depending which route they would use normally done in around 3 days depending on speed and number of drivers and things to see on the way. Registration documents of car, green card from their insurance company some still issue some don't. Licence all parts breath test kit, for France ,warning triangle, spare bulbs, hi viz vest, car fire extinguisher . Photocopy all docs and leave somewhere safe. Only one border crossing that i know of Turkey you buy insurance at the border. In the summer months if intending to use the southern route no need to book the ferries just turn up and travel. A europe sat nav better still a proper map. An easy trip have done it myself 3 times on a motorbike twice in a truck and 3 times in a car.
They have nothing to worry about better driving in europe than the uk.

Yep, everything that Tim says.

Also, make sure they have Euros to buy Vignettes at the Serbian, Slovenian and Austrian borders if they use the overland route.

Tell them to be prepared for the possibility of a bit of extra attention at Calis and Dover from UKBA purely because of the Turkish plates.

Just a word of warning on visiting non EU countries.

If your Green Card does not cover you for a particular country and you have to buy insurance at the border remember it is only third party cover.

Most countries let you import a vehicle duty free so if you are involved in an accident and the vehicle is written off you might be liable to pay the duty on it. Also make sure you have breakdown cover that includes the countries you aim to drive through. I can highly recommend the German ADAC they cover the whole of Europe including Turkey and Morocco.

I don't wish to put anybody off but I have driven to Turkey many times over the years by various route and things do happen.
