Almost fatalities on railway.
« on: August 22, 2014, 12:14:23 PM »
Wife and I traveled by train From Cambuslang to Edinburgh on 20 August 2014 to meet up with a close friend who stays in Musselburgh.
First, and shortest leg of the journey from Cambuslang to Bellshill went smoothly.Got our connection to Edinburgh(Glasgow Central to Edinburgh via Shotts)on time.Chose this journey because it misses out lots of the stations and takes less than an hour from Bellshill.
Accelerating from Bellshill and on the East side of Holytown station, the driver had to make an emergency stop. The reason--children playing on the railway line.Thank God we were only travelling at about 30mph.We were delayed for 10 minutes until someone took the children off the line.
Thankfully nobody was injured.Where were the parents I ask.Even my two grandaughters sing a song about Dumb way to Die,in relation to children playing on the railway.
Had a great day in Auld Reekie though, and a fast and non incident free return.
I enjoyed, thanks to our friend's local knowledge,Iris Restaurant on Thistle Street and Maxie?bar/restaurant near the Mound.
