Amazing, seems like just a few years ago.  She would have been 53 years old now.

Time flies, scarey!  How many of us can realistically look forward 17 years? Thought for the day.  :o :(

I was working for a phone company that you could buy cards for and phone internationally. If you pressed a button you could speak to an English operator. All day we received calls from around the world, some where crying asking if it was true, is Princess Diana really dead. It was so sad.

I remember seeing the news soon after the crash had happened, during one of my rituals - checking the headlines on Teletext (ask your parents kids) prior to switching off and sleeping. It said Diana had been involved in a car crash and to be honest I didn't give it much thought. I was working for a company in Middlesex and not long before she was leaving a nearby gym and while driving out hit a bollard trying to avoid the press. I just assumed it was another crash like that.

My youngest was born in June that year and I was up doing a night feed and had put the radio on to be greeted with very sombre music and no speaking - I think it was R5. I assumed the signal had been lost but this carried on until an announcement came that she had been in an accident then a later one saying she had died. I was so stunned that I phoned my Mum and woke her up to tell her the news. It just seemed so surreal.

At the time Dodi Fayed's death was pushed to one side and if he was mentioned it was
usually something nasty, it was all about Diana. This upset me, a family had lost a son.
So I wrote to Mohammed Al Fayed via Harrods to express our condolences at his loss.
I received a lovely full page reply telling me all about Dodi and about Dodi and Diana.
I'll try and sort it out and post it. RIP all of them.

Got up that Sunday morning about 7-30 to go to church. Went in to check on the hamster I bought 3 days before to find it had had babies!! switched the TV on to hear the news. Was never a fan of Dianas, but felt so sorry for her boys.

Remember it well, I was working at the Kensington Palace Hotel, which overlooked the Palace, when it happened. It was mayhem 24/7, especially as High Street Kensington tube station was closed for the week.

On the plus side, my drive back to Yorkshire on the Friday afternoon was completed in record time.
