Hi Carol and Rob, welcome to the forum. Good luck with finding a place. Although there are mossies in Calis, during our recent visit we didn't see many so they aren't about all the time.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your property hunt.  We have been going to Turkey for 9 years and also have a place in Ovacik and mossies have never been a problem for me personally.  I just take a good mozzie spray for protection in the evenings.

Hi -welcome to the Forum. I don't think the mozzies are any worse than anywhere else we've been in Turkey - as long as you take the proper precautions you should be ok. As for the sea - I've snorkelled in it loads of times and its fine. There is a beautiful breeze in Calis (a Godsend when its hot) so I've found that snorkelling is better in the morning when the sea is calmer- later in the day the waves churn up the sand so the water isn't quite so clear.

Jan, I think the reason you didn't get many bites this time, was because they were feeding on me! Jan & Russ will advocate how many times I was bitten in May, my legs were covered in bites.  But that is the problem I have in any hot country I travel to, not just Turkey.  If you get bitten in other hot countries, then I suggest you take plenty of mozzie repellants to Turkey with a high level of DEET, if you don't then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Hi Susie Q oh yes  you did get the bites this time  :-\Cant really remember how many you had on your legs but it was a fair few. But as you say its the same in any hot country. I got worse bites in spain and ended up at the doctors. The constant breeze is a welcome, i just wish it wasnt just on the front,:D But i dont think the breeeze has really been that harsh that it can churn the sea up but  I may be wrong.

WOW thanks everybody for your good wishes, didnt expect such a quick response, not sure if I am posting this in the right section I havent got the hang of it yet, if I have, can anyone give me a rough estimate  of a years living expenses ie food bills etc, we are hoping to buy and live off the cash made from our England sale (we can dream), not sure if this will be possible, if needs be can Brits work in Turkey, I know there are certain jobs we can not do, but is it easy enough to get the odd job to make ends meet, any suggestions will be welcome

its hard to get working visa s as turkey want the turkish people to work not forigeners,people do do jobs here maybe not legal....
it is cheaper to live in turkey though but prices are rising all the time.maybe other forum members know any other ways to earn a living here.

Two people can live comfortably including eating out several times a week in the locantas (not the more expensive tourist spots) pay all utility bills for about £400 a month, This would not include the expenses of running a car. Obviously your lifestyle will dictate the exact figure you could pay a lot more or if you are very frugal and dont drink much you could pay less.Hope this will give you a rough idea

carol triblelder is right and we run a car as well, we re not big drinkers
 but like to eat out couple of times a week ,its the life style you are getting in turkey
outdoor a lot more,healthier eating longer life.
