Who ?

Raphael, who died on Sunday 19th October at the age of 60, was the saxophonist on Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street.

Well if you are able to leave one thing behind, let it be something as marvelous and uplifting as that sax work on Baker Street.

Strangely enough he stated a few years ago that the tune really irritated him as it is out of tune, but at the time no one cared as they didn't think it would get anywhere!

I heard him say that up until Baker Street, he was an unknown session musician and got just £30 for the sax solo. To add insult to injury, the cheque bounced !

He said he wasn't too bothered as soon after he was being offered £5,000 for a session.
