Swimming pool info
« on: December 19, 2014, 18:56:15 PM »
Looking for a bit of info regarding outdoor, unheated pools...

We're thinking of a family holiday at the end of May half-term next year and was wondering, will an unheated pool get warm enough to swim in ?

No chance. My kids used to go in our pool at the end of May but its not for the faint hearted.

We always used to have a week over there in May and found the pools to be freezing - mainly due to heat loss overnight (it is pretty cool at night in May), but also due to the fact that they probably aren't long filled so haven't seen much sun. Worse still, if it is filled using well water, that is almost ice cold when drawn :o

All that said, it never stopped us using them :D

When we lived there, we didn't even fill our pool till the end of June, and used to scoff at the silly tourists swimming  :)

A lot is down to the size of the pool. Private ones are generally warmer in early/late season - but still freezing   ;) In the same way, private ones seem to get uncomfortably warmer than large complex/hotel ones in July/August. Ours used to be like a bath. Without the taps and plughole though.

We find when the sun is full on the pool in the morning, lunchtime it is too hot to use.  Come late afternoon it is fine, nice and warm.  We have been visiting in late May for about 9 year now.  In fact, last year my daughter her husband and our granddaughter where over in April and it was over 30 degrees and they used the pool each day for two weeks.
