The following article was due to be published in Land of Lights newspaper today. This provides an update about the Calis Car Boot Sales.
"Local Car Booters will be pleased to hear that the February Çalış Car Boot Sale will go ahead next month as planned.The January sale was cancelled by the 3C’s, much to the disappointment of many, due to problems encountered at the previous sale.
Charity committee members have now met with the Director of Fethiye Zabita, (Fethiye Belediye’s Community Police), and are pleased to confirm that the next scheduled sale on Sunday 22 February will take place as usual.
The charity have decided not to introduce a prepayment scheme at the present time as many stallholders attend from outside the area and also it is not possible to close off the car park in advance of the sale. Instead they have decided to continue with the “turn up and pay on the day” system which has successfully been in place for the last 8 years but now have additional systems in place to ensure that the event runs smoothly. Zabita officers will also be present to support the committee and deal with any problems encountered.
“We are still dependent upon the support and cooperation of the stallholders but we hope that if they want the car boots to continue they will ensure that the conditions of the sale are adhered to” said 3C’s Chairman Peter Clark. “The sales are not only popular with the local community and help us to raise money to pay for bursaries to enable students from poor families to attend university, but they also help local businesses by bringing people into Çalış during the lean winter months”.
The monthly car boot sales take place in the car park next to the Bahar Hotel, off Çalış seafront and run from 7am to 2pm. A pitch, which is 2 tables wide and includes 2 free tables whilst stocks last, is 2OTL. All pitch hire fees net of the cost of table hire goes to fund university bursaries for locial students.
