Winter Pics
« on: February 04, 2015, 17:33:41 PM »
Just over a week ago I promised to take some winter pics when the rain stopped, well it did in part last Wednesday, although it has started again since then, and I took a few more on Sunday, when things were a little brighter for a while.  So here they are.
Start down on the Beach outside the Eyna and 3C’s shop, where Mrs T was doing her shift.

As you can see from the next few pics the prom was not busy, but if ever you wondered what the Serkul 1 and 2 look like out of season.. look no further.  The view along the beach towards Koca Calis still looks great, even if the weather is a little inclement.

One of the nice things in the winter months is that the beach cafes offering Turkish snacks and drinks take a higher profile.  Bringing in many local Turks to sit, chat, play backgammon and of course drink cay.  My favourite, and the favourite of many locals is the Green Café.. seen here

Outside the Green Café here is my old mate Steve, in training for the Race for Life later in the year … get yer money on him to take the silverware, red hot favourite in my book, but better still why not simply sponsor him for the event.

This picture is taken from the Green Café, now you need to double click or whatever in order to zoom in to see in the near distance the Fethiye Rowing Club going along.  Not surprised really as the sea was like a mill pond, perfect I’d have thought for rowing.

Right just finish the cay – a money shot this one!!

Now this is an unusual shot.  It’s taken outside Arkwright’s Hardware Emporium.  The place is usually packed with cars out front, as locals and builders alike come to get their building and hardware materials.  Very helpful people too, plus the prices are not too bad either… and it certainly saves going into Fethiye or Gunlukbasi for stuff.

Some of you may not recognise this place - Zayra 2 – as he has for the second year on the trot had more improvements done.  This year a new bar area, and he has replaced the old decking floor with new block paved flooring.  Looking good, and I am sure he will maintain the excellent food, service and prices in the next season.

Again some of you may not know this place, but it has been mentioned a lot on CBF of late for the excellent food, and now with the sad demise of Vojos the location for the Animal Aid quiz.  It’s the Mandalin Restaurant (Part of the new Akkent Hotel) nearly opposite Kipa (Calis) and behind the law courts.  Stunning place, and I thnk it will become a must visit place come the summer with it’s beautiful pool area and restaurant.

Then from the beach it’s off to Gunlukbasi for a bit of man pampering.  Firstly a nice shave from Ramazan.

Then down 20 meters to his brother place for the best Chicken Doner Yarim in the area, served with lashing of chillie flakes, a plate of chips and, of course, a couple of cays to wash it all down….lovely!

Take note Jacqui H, I know you frequent this place.  My local market, which only opened last year down by the canal running down to the Hotel Pelin.  He has ‘slid’ his shop back 2 meters, to give him more space on the front to extend his range for next season.

Now look do not get me started on the canal work again, but it has been almost two years since they started the work, it’s still not finished.  Least of all the roads that were torn up by the heavy machinery to build the canal walls.  It’s a disgrace, bad enough on the roads round by us, it’s like a scene from the Somme, but worst of all the road behind the beach (Nil Bar, Bella Mammas part) is still a mess, and no sign that the work will be finished.  The local Mayor and the new Council in Mugla should get this sorted, or stand down in disgrace.  Yes I know the work is done by another part of the Turkish government, but surely they cannot allow this to continue in an area they represent!!

Out on Sunday now, a much brighter day when we went out, but it did start to pick up bad after we had finished the Sunday roast at the Nil bar.  So here are a few shots on the prom again.

Wind is starting to pick up

A busy winter Sunday lunch time at the Nil Bar

Finally a couple of shots of the snow capped mountains, taken from our house.

Great pictures UBT.  Thank you so much. I've never been to Calis in the winter season but maybe it's worth a relaxing visit.   :)  :)

Great roving reporter photos and journalism from CBF correspondent in Calis.
