Smelly canal?
« on: March 25, 2015, 19:43:34 PM »
We are considering buying a property next to the canal (in the vincinty of the B52 gym). Someone told us that the canal smells real bad in summer.
We had not heard about this so would like to hear your experience.
Does the canal smell or not? And if so, how bad is it?
Thanks.

Hi we own a villa close to the canal and to say that it smells seems strange as walking and cycling along the side
of it we have not noticed anything.

In 10 years I have NEVER known the RIVER to smell. In summers with no rainfall from June to September there is still plenty flow down the river. We are at Violet opposite the B52 gym and I cycle down the river daily.

And that's more difficult than it looks!

Our place is by the no longer upside down bridge, I sit on our balcony probably 30 foot or so from the river (because it flows) and have never noticed any smell apart from the cows next door   ;)

Thanks all. That's a relief.
I hadn't realised that it was actually a river so won't use the word canal anymore.

The person who told us this has most likely some jealousy issues because he came up with so many rather negative points about the house and the area. I feel sorry for my husband because he saw this man as a good friend.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing people cycle down the river  ;)

If you refer to it as the river, nobody will know what you mean.  ;)
