I want to put one of those App thingys on my phone, I want it to ding and talk to remind me to do something, or an appointment,

It will depend on what phone you have as to what you can download

Do you need an app Loz? Obviously depends on the phone you have, but most of them have calendars into which you can put reminders etc as well as events, and which will alert you as far in advance as you choose - from five minutes to the day before, for example.
