I just read this on the "Tips for Turkey"  F.B. page and thought I would post it here. It is from an English lady called Lorrainel
IMHO It is a warning to newbies that Hazarous Sports Insurance should be taken out if the plan Quad Biking, Paragliding, Jeep Safaris, even Horse Riding on some Travel Insurance is not covered.

------------------------------------------------

Just to let holiday makers know that if they hire a quad bike they don't have insurance on them as the law here is that they only need traffic insurance to be able to go on the road also they should check the small print on their travel insurance the reason I am letting you know is that my husband and son hired quads and on the 1st May my husband went over a cliff with the quad due to the loose gravel giving way he is in a very bad way in Mugla hospital on a ventilator as he hasn't woke up or breathed for himself since and our travel insurance refused to pay they said its classed as an extreme sport but it was on page 29 of a 48 page document I just want to warn people as I wouldn't like to see another family go through what I am going through as I have now been told I can take him home to the UK which I have to pay for and it ranges from 23,000 Euro to 30,000 euros

I have just read Lorraine's story so sad  don't think it is looking very good for her husband to be honest...
Thankfully none of us engage in any of these activities when we go to Turkey heard too many tragic and sad stories over the years to want to even try any of them...
There is a just giving page that Lorrsines sons friends have set up to try and raise the funds needed to get her hubby home...

Similar case in our local area in Aberdeenshire.  A young guy killed on holiday and no insurance, his Mother is trying to raise £30,000 to bring back his body.
I have heard it is only £11. for some Hazardous Sports Policies.  So, best to check that out if anyone intends to try one of these dangerous sports.   I think even with insurance, there would be lots of small print about safety and helmets.  Saw a couple yesterday on the Calis to Fethiye road, riding quads, they had no helmets on.
I always think it strange that us Brits come on hoiiday and throw ourselves off mountains, ride on Jeeps with no seatbelts firing water pistols at each other etc., with no thought there could be a possibility of an accident.
We would not and could not do these things at home without insurance.

In the UK you don't need to wear a helmet when riding a quad and only need to have a full driving licence, but obviously if on a road you need insurance.

You don't NEED to wear a helmet while riding a horse either, but anyone with an ounce of sense would.

The family have now set up a website for donations.  This also gives you the story of what happened and images of the man concerned. Apparently, he was a truck driver, but it seems there is not a lot of hope he will come out of this situation.

There is a 'Hisaronu, Oludeniz, Ovacik Here We Come' FB group doing a big raffle for this cause. They have raised £1280 so far.
