Dalaman Airport Taxis

The current exchange rates impact a bit on the Taxi v Private Transfer debate.

A trip form Calis to Dalaman in a taxi, at a sociable time of day, can be had for about 120 TL ( and I did pay 100 TL in April).

Has any one used a taxi the other way - just walk out the airport building and into a taxi ? (not pre booked)

What rate do the taxis put on their boards at the airport and what do they actually end up charging ? Does this change at night ??

Good thinking Phil re the exchange rate - there is a taxi rate board as you leave arrivals detailing prices for all the main resorts - all we need is for a kind CBF member going out soon to take a photo of it...anyone up for the job?

There is a website for Dalaman Airport taxis - www.dalamanairporttaxi.com - and when I played on it a few weeks ago it seemed to suggest that a transfer could be pre booked for about 110 TL.

The site doesn't seem to be working at the moment - which makes me nervous about ever using it.

At todays exchange rates anything less than about 140 / 150 TL makes it cheaper than a Private Transfer. I think I will probably give it a try in September.

Don't think they've updated that site for a while.  I posted this on another thread recently:

According to the official Dalaman airport site its 135tl to Fethiye, which sounds about right.  Funnily enough their prices in USD, GBP & EUR come out a lot higher in lira!

I've used them often enough, always paid in lira and if it's quiet have managed to haggle them down a bit.  Not sure of the return, Yat Taksi and Kordon Taksi always have a board outside with the price to the airport.  Again, its always worth a bit of a haggle.

Traditionally, the prices at domestic were always that little bit cheaper than those at the international arrivals but not sure if that's still the case.  They must do a fair bit of business to Fethiye as pretty much all have known where ikinci Karagözler is without needing directions.

As a post script to this topic ........ when I arrived in September at 10 o'clock at night  I walked out of the airport and went straight to the taxi rank.

The advertised price to Fethiye was £45.00 ( which includes Calis ). After much sucking in of breath and use of the word pahali, a final price of £40.00 was agreed. ( This was for two people - I assume 3 or 4 would be the same)

You are not in a strong position to negotiate when you are standing with your suitcases desperate to get to Calis with only one way of getting there getting there.

My return taxi cost 120TL, so the round trip was about the same as a private transfer.

You pays your money and makes your choice...................

When we arrived on 26/09 I had a quick look at the taxi prices I think it said 140tl, which is only slightly more than a private transfer thanks to the exchange rate.

Those prices on the site are odd.

140TL at today's rate of approx 4.5 = £31

And yet the sterling equivalent price on the site is £60

Moral: Bring some lira to pay for the taxi

(I pay £35 one way for my relative's transfers, so the taxis are good value.)
