I did see a "typical" Brit football shirt wearing meat head in Calis - I am have told this story before, it was years ago. The gentleman in question was the full stereotypical package - literally England football shirt, Union Jack shorts, skinhead, face like a bulldog, can of lager in hand (and not the first he'd had by any means.
I stood outside the old Forum Bar (near Meri Bar) and saw him approaching/staggering a little from around the corner, heading in the direction of the beach. Now the kerb there used to be (probably still is) around 15" high. I knew that, he didn't. He left the pavement and by the time his foot hit the road tarmac he was way too far ahead of himself and went into a forward stumble - only stopping due to a Turkish guy's old wedgy shaped Renault which was waiting at the junction - clattering into it but they are generally fairly bashed up so I doubt much resale value was lost. The Turkish guy didn't seem particularly bothered either.
What happened next took me by surprise. Even though the driver quite obviously had his wife and kids in the car, the "England fan" started whacking the car and he took a couple of kicks at it.
What happened next surprised me even more. The driver got out and my he was built like a pipe cleaner with a moustache, but he was Turkish and he was angry. He started battering the tourist with great skill and accuracy - the "thug" did a few of those "move back a few steps and yell come on then" manoeuvres but each time the Turkish guy did, and battered him a little bit more. Then he got back in his car, unchallenged, and drove on.
It was the best entertainment I'd seen in Calis at that time.
Brits abroad eh.
