Ironically it often seems to be the same people whinging about the mass migration of refugees across Europe who want to bomb Syria which will defacto lead to even more refugees migrating across Europe.

John F is right, you can't kill an ideology and in case anyone hasn't noticed none of the people in the attacks in Paris were refugees; they were all nationals of Belgium or France.

Stop the money, stop the guns and other arms freely making their way into their hands and let's support a UN led negotiated peace settlement whoch includes the key players like Iran and which both Putin and Obama have now, after FIVE years of war said they support.

I think one of the killers managed to get back from Syria by posing as a refugee. Unless that's been unproven?

So? Millions of people are on the move attempting to escape from the dread ravages of Daesh. Inevitably, some Jihadists have infiltrated. Well we manufacture enough of our own in England. Also in France and Belgium and elsewhere. Why get so upset about refugees from the hell over there?

If we're going to bomb them, then bomb the hell out of them.  I remember an old adage: "If you think force can't solve your problem, you probably aren't using enough of it.

...and that'll work how?

There is a certain irony that we're discussing this matter on a forum that focuses on an area within Turkey.  Yep, the same Turkey that, along with other wealthy Gulf States, has funded the rag, tag and bobtail collection of hairy arsed rebels that evolved into IS.

The same Turkey who (allegedly) is further funding IS by buying oil from them below market value.

The same Turkey that continues to assist IS by bombing Kurdish settlements in northern Iraq.

The same Turkey which appears to be a safe haven for IS fighters and supporters, bar the odd token arrest.

I could go on, but wont.

IS fighters on the ground are, in some ways, like puppets - what the west needs to do is deal with the countries pulling their strings.

I was just answering Nichola, Colwyn. But seeing you ask why people are getting so upset about refugees I will answer you.

They look at Paris, 7/7, 9/11, the Russian plane and many other atrocities and they see that all these were caused by Islamic terrorists. Many are worried about another mass influx of refugees and UKIP are taking votes en mass from Corbyn's Labour. Europe's free border travel is a mess and countries are now realising how foolish it was to allow free passage to and from other member countries.

That's the reality.

The outcome could be all Muslims being tarred with the terrorist brush and that would be a tragedy IMO.

Not wholly sure that I want Putin, Obama et al to bomb the hell out of Bradford and Birmingham but as a hotbed/cradle of much anti - western sentiment we have created a fair few terrorists of our own.

With deference to Nichola's post about terrorists' origins we can't really blitz the heck out of France and Belgium either.

....anyway, my partner's from Birmingham (going for the sympathy vote here) and was drawn, albeit briefly, into the world of Islam by a close friend. Despite her friend having a seemingly benign, sensible attitude towards worldly attitudes, there was still a strong, fundamentalist doctrine that proclaimed Islam to be the way we should be leading our lives.

It must be so easy for the young Muslims to be drawn into this way of thinking - whether they be in France, Belgium or England.

It is all OK! I've just seen George Osborne on TV saying he is going cut the number of police officers on the street but he is going to make sure we are absolutely safe from terrorists. Think I'll open a bottle!

P.S Just noticed. My ID number at work ended with 911, my Bristol library card ends 911, and now my number of "Likes" is 911. And this on a terrorist-related thread! Could somebody please add an extra "Like" or several people "Unlike" several threads that they previously "Liked". And will JohnF please not freeze my personal account to make me stay on 911 for ever. Ta.

I think with Corbyn's pacifist views, he might be cutting the police and the army too, but we would all be given flowers to put in our hair... :)

Cameron et al have already taken on the job of cutting the military and police, in case you hadn't noticed! So much for 'national security' under the Tories!
