NEW BLOKE !!

Yes I hear you sigh not another one , but yes we too coming over in Oct to hopefully purchase our little bolt hole in the sun. We are Steve and Carole from Kent and have only recently found the site by chance . But hey there seems to be a lot of info on here relating to the law, estate agents ,furniture , money transfers ,etc, basically you name it .We have been to Turkey many times before but not the Calis area , however we`ve been told some really positive things about the area, so here goes . The only thing we are really finding difficult is finding info on  the different areas around Calis , i.e quieter areas vs busy areas , the more expensive parts vs the cheaper ones and relative merits of buying close to the beach , or further up in the hills as some appear to be doing . Anyway we`ve got a little time before we go , and it appears theres lots of you out there with loads of info so we will keep in touch on the site. Good luck everyone . We hope to meet some of you over the coming months and years , good luck and many thanks for the help

hi steve and carole, we have bought a house in catalarik and it is not far on the dolmus from calis or fethiye, and just by the mountains so plenty of breeze all day. we chose there has we could have the best of both, far enough away from the noise of the bars etc and near enough to get to them when we wanted to, anyway good luck

Puma , Thanks mate for the info , where is Catalarik , south of Calis ? and how far from the beach? and who did you buy with ? I guess there is always a balance to strike between being out on a limb or in the action .I think like you we would rather travel in for the action than have it on our doorstep .
cheers steve

Hi Steve and Carole

Welcome to the forum.

We had also been to Turkey many times before we purchased our place and for us this was the best area.  We chose Ovacik by the mountains which is between Fethiye and Oludeniz.  We get cool breezes and fantastic views and we're only a short dolmus ride from the beach at Olu, so we feel we have it all.

I'm sure wherever you buy you will not be disappointed - it's the best thing we've ever done - good luck

lindi :)

steve if you are going out of calis up to the roundabout and go straight ahead to the top, turn right on to the gunlakbasi road,go down 1/4 mile and on the left is light/paint shop just before the police station and school.you go down 1/4 mile to a bridge and that is catalarik, on the left is a new complex being built, green and cream and terracota and cream 4 bedroomed houses, they have double glazed windows and en-suite shower, bathroom, and w.c downstairs, and fitted kitchen.there is also a swimming pool. we got ours for a bargain on our 2nd to last day we bought from tracey at premier estates in fethiye, great lady still helps out when we need advice

Hi Steve and Carol
Welcome to the forum.
Best thing is to view as many areas as is possible during your visit, get a feel for where you think you'll be best off and go from there.
Good luck
Anne

hello and welcome to the forum - as relatively new members and owners we know only too well the anxieties involved. But, have lots of fun looking and you'll find lots of advice from more experienced members , you won't go wrong with our sponsors who are just the business. Mary

Hi Steve and Carol.

We had visited Turkey many times, the Hisaronu region mainly, but had travelled along the coast on gulets for the past few years, so had seen quite a bit of the main resorts and towns.  We always found ourselves drawn back up to Hisaronu, because the setting in the mountain is absolutely beautiful, and Olu Deniz is the "local" beach. However it has become a bit too built up of late, so when we decided to buy last month, we started off looking in Calis, around Fethiye, even up as far as Kas and the Kas peninsula (beautiful). However we have settled for Ovacik.  It has the best of both worlds - close enough to the action of Hisaronu if you want it, but still retaining peace and tranquility with the stunning mountain backdrop. And like Lindi says - it remains a couple of degrees cooler than down on the coast - which helps greatly!!! Wherever you buy - the Turkish people are wonderful, and everywhere has its own charm. Good Luck!

Hi Steve & Carol, i love being in the centre of Calis, right opposite forum bar to be precise, but music from there does't keep me awake, mainly cos i'm still in scarlett bar long after forums closed, lol.Alan
