Great post Colwyn.  We had the same with our grand children, and that was twenty years ago.  Things don't change and lets hope they never do.

Went to Marmaris today for our annual quick excursion there. It was too hot so we only stayed a few hours but that town looked seriously empty of tourists. I reckon it was only a third of the people you usually see around the harbour/marina, "Grand Bazaar" and beach. Restaurant-bars on the sea with two to four people in them at lunchtime. Of course, they have very few or no Turkish tourists to make up for the shortfall in foreigners. Overall, quite dismal for the place.

That may change shortly, given that its a nine day bayram coming up.

Maybe. But I suspect that Marmaris isn't very high on most Turkish folks' holiday destination lists

No, not normally.  This year may be different though, given the large numbers of beds needing filled in many hotels - lot of folks I know all heading to the south/south west coast and if the hotels are offering deals, I suspect they'll get the bodies to fill them.

I don't suppose your likely to see many Turkish tourists during Ramadan especially in restaurants if they're fasting. That could be another reason. I'm thinking positively now   :)

The resort where I am staying is full of Turkish tourists during the week and utterly crammed by Turks at weekends. They don't seem to be much bothered by ramazan with most of them smoking, drinking, listening to music and - yes - eating. I reckon 95% of tourists here are Turkish, but a local expat tells me he thinks it is 99% this year. Anyway, the place is humming; the beach is packed and the Turkish restaurants doing good trade - the few aimed at Brits, less so.
