The original dates were 4th to 7th July, but little reginald decided that everyone needed a holiday so its now effectively from the 2nd through to 10th July.

Evocative post, Colwyn. Really enjoyed reading of your grand daughter's adventures.

We're just on our way back to Fethiye after a short Greek Island cruise.
We were the only Brits amongst several hundred Turks, approx 20 Iranians and a few Germans.
Certainly no evidence of Ramadan and the Iranian ladies looked so free and happy.
The duty free shop at Cesme was absolutely rammed with people buying up as much booze as they were allowed.

Hi JohnF,
Excuse my ignorance but is that not the feast of Ramadan.
I thought that Bayram was in September.

Eid - or as it is also known here in Turkey, Bayram Şeker, falls immediately after Ramadan (Ramazan) and is the celebration at the end of the month long fast.

This is a handy little link:

Şeker Bayramı is on the 5th July and Kurban Bayramı is on the 12th September this year.  Different festivals, different dates.

I heard the 5th July holiday will be for 9 days.  However, a local we know said it would probably only mean 5 days for Banks etc., being closed.   ;)

Ramazan Bayram would normally have started with the preparation 1/2 day on Monday 4th July & the 3 subsequent days 5th - 7th the usual 3 day end of Ramazan holiday.

The 4th has been declared as a full day off & 8th has been added. As such, the banks will be closed 4th -8th inclusive, but with a weekend at either end, will effectively be shut for 9 days.

The ATMs have been known to run out of money in the past, so worth getting what you need either by 1st July or over that weekend
