Yes and all those departure gates. 1A or 1B wasn't it :D

I thought they were just left or right  :)

Something like 20m from entering airside to gate.  Brilliant.

Yes that's right - through security and straight in front of you was the only choice to make - 1A was left and 1B right. I haven't travelled domestic from DLM for years but when I did the old terminal was a real nostalgia experience.

It feels almost rude to hijack this thread about comparing airports but I thought I would return to the theme of "Are you still going?".

We thought we were struggling to a definite decision about this and deciding not to go in 2017. Nothing to do with terrorism, that doesn't bother us. It is the moral question of holidaying in a country where thousands are tortured, academics and journalists are thrown into gaol for making critical comments, judges are locked up for making "wrong" decisions, opposition news outlets are closed, protestors are water-canoned and beaten, and the President is surrounded by a gang of thugs who enjoy kicking the sh1t out of  people with anti-Erdogan placards even when Erdogan is touring other countries. So perhaps it is about terrorism after all -if you class Erdogan as a terrorist. Our tentative decision was to move to a sort of compromise. We have always said we would return to Northern Cyprus - which would be Turkish without being Turkey. And we wouldn't want to do both TRNC and Turkey in the same year. So perhaps 2017 would be a good year to give Turkey a miss.

But then Hilary's youngest sister threw another factor into the mix. She had been reading my daughter's input on facebook saying that when they joined us in June it was "an amazing holiday, best ever" and was now thinking that she and her partner would like to join us for next year. Something more to think about. Ho, hum.

I'm with Colwyn on this. We arrived last night and will be here for 2 weeks. Our trip was booked back in January ish.

I was considering not coming and sacrificing the flights etc but decided on spending some money to help the locals/businesses who have been so friendly to us over the last 4 years. Safety wasn't a serious consideration.

But I don't wish to "support" a political regime such as this so its most likely we won't return until something significant changes. It really is a disgrace.

Sat in Guvens having a cheap as chips Efes watching the boats sail by. Heaven. Went down the strip leading to the front last night which was fairly busy and had a great start to the hol  in The Brothers restaurant.  The new Mangal  looked very nice . And good to see the people enjoying themselves.

I'm not taking the family to Turkey this year - we made that decision fairly early on after our trip to Kalkan last October which was after the devastating Ankara bombing on 10/10/15 and immediately before the parliamentary election re-run. We're going to "both sides" of Cyprus instead next week - 5 days in the Republic and 11 in Kuzey Kibris. Flying via Larnaca (EU) and being near a couple of UK military bases whilst being in the North adds a feeling of a bit more security. If any member of the family felt unsafe, then it would hardly be a holiday.

Saying all that, I'm trying to organise a boy's trip for a long weekend to go to Istanbul (never been, but I've wanted to go for a long time) and see Besiktas v Galatasary in September with my UK-based Turkish mate! I think you can only describe a fixture like that as being "a bit tasty".

I'll miss Fethiye/Calis and will pray to any God of your choosing that peace - and Ataturk's doctrine - prevails.

The last place I would want to be is near a British military base the security is on the inside not the out look at that poor man Lee Rigby or the RAF guy from just the other week and that was in our own country

Hugely depressing video shot by Carole at Guvens posted in that other place.

Hardly a soul to be seen.

Awful. :( :( :( :(
