I understand the law is the law regarding carrying the necessary documentation,  especially in this current climate in Turkey. But I would not be able to relax carting round 4 passports every time we nipped out, especially to the beach.  So I hope that common sense is used regarding tourists, if you know what I mean.  I may just take copies of the relevant pages, and chance my arm.
Certain British tabloids would have a field day if a couple of pensioners for example ended up in a bit of bother,  no more negative publicity is needed at home.

A quick point on the colour copies of your passport.
I was fined only 20 quid but its against copyright laws to have a colour copy of your UK passport

Could you enlarge on the circumstances Jackstee? I imagine it must have been in the UK so which pettifogging place-server saw fit to enact this obscure regulation? Had you trodden on his/her toe - physically or figuratively?

Colwyn -"pettifogging".

Beautiful.....haven't heard it for years.

Reminds me of my Dad! (sorry - no ageism intended).

A "pettifogging place - server" - I'm warm inside,,,,,,

Thanks to everyone who has replied to this thread. I have been able to assemble a good picture of the situation and some advise on what to do. I have sent this on to her and I think it will be helpful. Thanks again.

A long time ago maybe in Muscat or Abu Dhabi I had to have our marriage license notarized by the Embassy so
clever me wishing to impress by using the Hotels new colour photocopier, I took a colour copy of both our passports and off to the Embassy I went.
A very stern civil servant informed me the colour copies were not allowed as it infringed on the copyright laws of the company who prints them.
He proceeded to print black and white copies and process the rest of the paperwork.
For the new copies he charged 20 quid and told me to consider it a fine for the colour copies and having to reprint them.

PS They would not authenticate the wedding license on the license as it was considered defacing an official form. They instead attached 3 A4 pieces of paper covered with official stamps and signatures. Mind you I am talking about 20 plus years ago and maybe 30.
