I can highly recommend Team Joseph safari's fantastic day had with all my family and friends.Very safe and careful drivers. All the trucks have seat belts and proper seats so you are not squashed all day. Also a must do is the ring rafting at Saklikent what a laugh.

This does not look like a jeep it looks a bit like a remodelled truck.   There would still be no insurance cover no matter how safe you say it is.

Looks like a fair bit of scaremongering going on here.

Firstly, from my memory the majority of incidents where folks have been killed/injured have involved jeeps/trucks that have had neither seat belts nor securely fitted roll bars.  They have also been overcrowded and in at least one case the driver was pretty much amongst the passengers using large water pistols.  I also believe the local authorities have clamped down, to the best of their abilities, on many of the rogue operators.

If you fancy one of these trips, have a look at what you'll be going out in - if its a manky old Landrover with no seat belts then give it a body swerve.  If however it's a purpose built "road safari" truck like posted above then you may be missing out on a good fun filled day.  Its a judgement call where you use your common sense.

Secondly, insurance.  Contrary to what some on here have been claiming, with many companies you are covered for this type of activity as standard - its simple, check your policy.  I'm with Virgin Travel Insurance and I'm covered - in fact not only am I covered for this as standard, I'm also covered for banana boating, abseiling, parascending over water, river tubing, mud buggying, go-karting and sleigh riding.  Lapland here I come!

The one caveat I was told when I enquired (I was curious) was that it must be with a properly licensed operator - in the case of Turkey I would look for them to be registered with TURSAB.  I had a look at a few other insurers (yeah, yeah, its a quiet day but I do fancy the sleigh riding   :) ) and they're not that dissimilar to Virgin.

Incidentally, Hazardous Sports Insurance is exactly that - rock climbing, sky diving, micro light flying etc, etc.  Not what is required for a properly organised and operated fun day out.

JF

EDIT: Not all insurers use the same criteria so if in doubt, check with your insurer yourself - as I've often said, never believe the old bollox you read on forums  :)

Certifications shown on their website - not sure how relevant they are.

These companies will insure for Hosptial treatment in Turkey, but not for a medi-vac home, a flight home if you miss yours or extra hotel stays.
The man whose quad bike went over the cliff in Oludeniz had travel insurance, but he was not covered for Quad Biking.  It was classed as a Hazarous sport and his wife was told that he should have got Hazardous Sports Insurance.  She wrote that she was really annoyed her Travel Insurance would not cover any hospital treatment for her husband and the fact her Mother in Law had to pay £29,000 to have a med-vac back. It was sad that he died at home.
I have read many times people complaining that they did not know the were not covered on their Travel Insurance. One lady wrote that a gust of wind smashed her and her pilot pilot into the rocks when paraglidng. She paid for her own hospital treatment and wrote a warning to other to check out their policies. .
So, if you want to do any Jeep Safars, Paragiding, Quad Biking, best to check if you are covered, because it seems most Travel Insurance will not cover it.  I have read mine and it also does not cover Hazardous Sports.
I am not here to argue.  I am only writing what I have read over the years that people have had accidents and have no cover with their Travel Insurance.  It is up to members to now go an check out their Travel Insurance Policies and see what they cover.
Not scaremongering, just common sense advice.
Note as H says...Not Sure.... So please make sure.

You can't put an old head on young shoulders. I have done a lot of dangerous stuff when I was younger and never gave it a second thought. It is mostly when you get older you think of the dangers

My daughter, who is young and has been many times to Turkey befoe she was married would not consider a jeep safari.  We were coming back from Kalkan in the car and all of sudden two jeeps shot ot of the trees onto the road in front of us and Phil had to break hard.  The Jeeps then got parallel on the (two way) road and all the passengers were standing up firing water pistols at each other.  So, no seat belts on and I beleive one of the fatal accidents in Fethiye  occurred when a driver got water in his eyes.
Does anyone think that their insurance would cover that?

Thanks mac2010 on a positive post about the Jeep safari, I would say the toobin rings down sakilent are a great laugh & I  almost managed to lose the wife but fortunately/un delete as appropriate the operator managed to grab her before she carried on down the river, sensible footwear advised for the whole day I would say. Had a great time I for one would do it again possibly in September when we are over with freinds.

After much deliberation we have decided to go with Team Joseoh. Bumped into their convoy on Coca Calis who said it was the best, safest, most fun trip they had been on. I'll give our verdict once we've done it. Website says fully insured and ISO compliance so feel better doing but of dudillageniemce on it.
