A few weeks ago I went to my GP and during my visit I asked him to look at a mole on my back. He said it does not look serious but he would refer me to a specialist and they would just remove it with a dab of liquid nitrogen. The first time I knew I had a mole was when I went for a Turkish bath and somehow they managed to make it bleed.
When I turned up for my appointment the consultant asked me to take my shirt off. When he saw the mole his first comment was that it looks suspicious and it should be removed immediately. So it was into the operating theatre and it was removed. The mole was sent off for a biopsy.
It was a rather worrying couple of weeks waiting for the result. Luckily, the result came back that it was benign.
The consultant did spend time explaining that melanoma is becoming very common and it is due to people over exposing their skin to the sun.
I suppose what I trying to say is that we should some time looking at our skin and paying attention to any moles and carefully watching out for any changes. What I did learn it is better to be safe than sorry.
