GB car in Turkey
« on: August 17, 2005, 09:53:23 AM »
When we came in may we drove from uk, we had hoped we would be able to keep our british car here after 6 months but have been advised that as when we have residency we will not be able too. I did some research before we left and i though we could register it here with a turkish license plate, but confused with conflicting info. we would like to know if a its possible to keep it legally here and how much it would cost and what is the procedure. Apologies if this topic has been covered before

You will find that there is a fair bit of information on this subject by using the search facility.
Bottom line is that it is not cost effective and most will end up taking their cars back out of the country.
Prices of new cars in Turkey are not that bad - if you look around some of the dealers offer good deals.

Jane, On a normal residency there is no way you can keep your car here for longer then six months apart from an exception. If your car has crashed and is undrivable or if you are hospitalised and are too sick to drive they will give a further 6 months. But getting the sick note for that has to be signed by 6 (yes six) doctors.
You can only change plates to turkish plates if you have a working permit or a student permit and a couple of others but if you are just a normal home owner with a residence then you can not do it.
