Support Your Local AI
« on: May 08, 2017, 12:18:37 PM »
Not really for me but I thought I'd give them a shout since they get a regular kicking on here. Don't they employ Turkish workers? Don't they buy meat and veg at local markets? Aren't they part of the local tourist economy?

They must do a very good job to encourage their guests not to leave.

iyi şanslar to them.

Surely they prefer their guests to go out rather than stay in, eating and drinking away the profits

Most of the AI's get a kicking for watered down beer, chips with everything and for waiting ages in a queue with kids (and adults) putting the hands in the food, hence the AI dicky tummy syndrome. Just like you Scunner, I am partial to a tot or three, but you'd probably need to drink(beer) 24/7 and the odds are that you'd still be upright!!

I stayed a couple of times at the Letoonia (back when I took one main holiday a year) and found the food and drinks to be of exceptional quality.

There was certainly no shortage of staff (not sure how many from the local area but I guess a substantial number) and the vast amount of fresh food purchased must have been of great benefit to the local economy.

There was a wealth of printed information in the reception area promoting local attractions, boat trips, cab companies etc. There was no specific restaurant information but the water taxi from Letoonia to Fethiye was regular and cheap allowing all day access to the town and its shopping and eating places.

For me, it did offer value for not a small amount of money. I guess, like most things, you get pretty much get what you pay for.

Iv jst booked us 2 nights in September at Jiva £55 for 2 a day/ night I think were getting hooked ever since our first visit either last year or year before   ;)of course i want to support local business's to be honest I like having the best of both worlds...we too like value for money we dont take the mickey re it being AI but when you think a lot of the bars are charging 22 tl per cocktail, 12 or 13 tl for one beer its a blooming cheap day night away...we noticed this stay they have two English reps working there now, I asked one if he was Turkish American because of his accent  ( though i did think he was quite pale for a Turk) but he wasnt he informed me no love Im from Stepney London   ;)

Yes, they employ Turkish workers and possible buy at Turkish Markets. Even though the figure say only 10% of A.I money goes into the local economy. Glad at least visitors are coming to these places.  Even if they, like you say, are not for us personally.
The way I see it is, we are all in this together and want Turkey and the locals to do well and not go under because a lot of tourists are not now visiting and the locals are struggling to keep their heads above water. I will be doing my bit to support the local economy and help the locals stay in their jobs, wherever they work as I am sure other members on this Forum will be too and will be joining me in visiting this year or whenever they can. We would all hate to see Calis go under because tourists are not coming, we all want to promote Calis and the all parts of Turkey.  Why else would we be members?
