I returned from holiday to find a copy of our neighbourhood newspaper waiting for me. I was interested in a story about Barmy Boris (the next Tory leader leader? September?). At he end of the election campaign he had visited the local Sikh Temple to support the local Tory candidate. He took a splendid Boris-style press photo with a striking orange turban. Unfortunately, in his address to the Sikh community of Bristol East he chose to highlight the great post-Brexit opportunities of increasing Britain's exports to India - especially whisky. The Sikh religion prohibits alcohol, and promoting it in one of their Temples was thought disrespectful by the people he was addressing. It didn't go down well. We, of course, know that it is just because he is barmy.
[The Labour candidate won the seat and increased her share of the vote by 21.5%].
