Mourning the loss of Calis Beach Forum
« on: April 10, 2025, 08:02:08 AM »
Once the CBF was vibrant and bright,
Calis Beach Forum, our digital light,
Where friends who loved turquoise shores would meet,
Sharing wisdom, laughter, making hearts complete.

Questions of visas, of markets, of home,
Tips for newcomers who chose to roam
To beautiful Fethiye's sun-blessed coast—
The Forum's kindness is what mattered most.

Expats and locals in harmony typed,
Supportive words when someone's hopes were wiped,
Celebrations shared when dreams came true,
CBF was family through and through.

But slowly, surely, the tide pulled away,
As Facebook's siren called members astray,
Notifications, likes, and instant replies,
Drew our community before our eyes.

Now echo chambers and trolls hold court,
Where once lived thoughtful, measured support.
Harsh words fly freely where kindness once reigned,
The peaceful spirit so hard to maintain.

Oh, Calis Beach Forum, we long for your grace,
That patient wisdom, that welcoming space,
Where Turkish neighbors and expats as one
Built bridges, not walls, beneath Fethiye's sun.

The CBF's heart still beats, though faint,
A digital ghost, a bygone saint,
Remember the forum where strangers turned friends,
Before social media changed how it ends.

Well said.  It is such a shame that this site is not really used much nowadays, and well done for such a well constituted poem.
Personally, I am reasonably computer literate and generally embrace technology.  Having said that, I really do not have any desire to use Facebook, and so I do not.  I cannot be alone in that.
I have never been an avid poster on here but I do look at it very regularly, and so I am sad that it is rare to see anyone post.
Hey ho......... I suppose it is called "Progress"!!!!!!

It is not 'progress' as you say, but the reality in that there are a lot of people that do not like Facebook because of all the inane rubbish that is posted. I do not want to read of someone getting up at 3 in the morning because they can't sleep and I certainly don't want to read of what happened on someone wild night out!!

The only other forum I contribute to is Linkedin, and that has sometimes been accused of getting like FB, but it is well policed and posts are quickly taken down if thought to be unsuitable

I will continue to read and post, where I feel I can contribute, to CBF.
