Is it just me or is anybody else finding the big red like buttons distracting when you are trying to read a post?
-
No, it's not just you. I don't like it either.
-
Miserable bu@@ers :)
It doesn't help that it is not working. http://www.calis-beach.co.uk/forum/topicseen./suggest_improvements_calis_beach_forums/member_and_post_functionality_54778.0.html
We can make the button less intrusive when/if we fix it
-
Doesn't bother me actually. :)
-
Doesn't bother me actually. :)
If only the like button worked....I would have clicked it
-
It will become just wallpaper, unnoticeable, it's just because it's new. Doesn't bother me.
-
I keep pressing the red button but the the TV still won't switch off.
-
How could you be bothered by a tiny red like button?
-
I'm not bothered by the tiny red button, but I would like to know if by pressing it that it is acknowledged in some way that I have liked it (if you know what I mean).
-
No sign of the red button on the Tapatalk app!
-
Lovely new avatar Toky! ;D
-
Yes, Toky, getting more glamorous all the time. I think you have a portrait in the loft. ;) ;D
-
The Supreme Soviet have discussed this and as the button is RED we are happy with it

Funny it doesn't show on my phone at all but looks enormous on my tablet. I haven't been on the computer recently so don't know about that. I didn't say I didn't like it, but just find it distracting, maybe its down to the medium you are viewing it through? Hope you get it sorted soon :)
-
No sign of the red button on the Tapatalk app!
This is nothing but a blatant advert for Tapatalk UNLIKE DISLIKE
-
i didnt know what all the fuss was about as i mostly use tapatalk so now I realise it doesnt show on there at all! Now on a PC it does- I like it and when it is sorted I'll defo use it. I often like something someone says but dont feel the need to comment- would be inclined to hit like though!
-
Lotty & Jacqui, pressed my "Like" button, just for the record lol. Thought I'd better update it in case you walk past me when I'm over ;)
-
I would imagine its all down to money and put there for a reason. The reason being to get you to click on it to generate more money for the advertiser in some other way or another. Its the same with all the annoying adverts. It seem you cannot go on many sites these days and you are hit by them. Many are to do with these social media sites. They should all be banned.
-
Not fussed either way :)

What's down to all the money? Are you talking about the like button?

What on Earth are you talking about? You seem to have no idea about it at all. The like button, when clicked, will let the person who's post you liked, know that you liked it. No money, no advertisers.

Perhaps you can then choose between (a) paying for membership and the advice and information you receive for nothing at present or (b) that I should pay for the hosting costs (which run into hundreds of pounds a year) out of my own pocket so I can provide somewhere for ungrateful sods like you to come without charge or request for payment and spout ill informed crap.
Yes I'm annoyed - the adverts save me losing money year after year (if people click on them, there's no obligation to) - if you can't stand the adverts p1ss off somewhere else!!!
-
I know the adverts help to pay for this website and I have to say I do click into them to help pay the costs as over the last 9 years this Forum has been invaluable to me and I am extremely grateful it's here. I can honesty say i don't know what i would do without it for all my Calis/Fethiye information. So thanks Keith... now calm down most of us are very fond of you and don't want to see you upset. ;D ;)
On the subject of the Like button. I see "like" in red at the bottom of postings, but I have no idea how to add it, as I am using my ipad and it does not seem to bring up a like button?? :-[
-
Jacqui - when Steve has got it working I think you will look back on that post and say "Doh!" ;D
-
Think that this all depends on whether you are used to using FB pages or not.. I know that some people still dont use social media sites...
-
Really? I don't know who that could be in this day and age.
Oh, it's me!

Ok so I'm wrong and there is no money involved, But why on earth would anyone on this site need to know whether or not if their post is liked or not. Cannot see the point myself. That's my opinion. Thats if I'm allowed to have one without being told to wee off. Nice attitude to have with members.
Of course I appreciate that you need to cover your costs and advertising is a part of that. but I myself do not like them and never will. If it meant paying to be a member of the forum it would not worry me one bit. Again just my opinion.I did not intend to annoy you Scunner so if I did I'm sorry.
-
I like the 'like' button as it is always good for use in debate and also when people are throwing in ideas
As for paying to be a member, I suspect that most would put up with the odd annoying advert, and to be honest I have seen far more annoying intrusions by advertising online, rather than pay.
I have no proof other that my numerous years in eCommerce but in my opinion charging people to be a member will reduce numbers which in turn reduces comments which in turn reduces numbers which in turn....you get my point
-
Nice attitude to have with members.
Only members who think free still isn't cheap enough. If you'd put as many hours into running this site over TEN YEARS and doing your best helping members with their Calis related situations, you'd understand. As it is, your only worry in life is having adverts to ignore.
-
Oh, it's me!
And me.
Of course I appreciate that you need to cover your costs and advertising is a part of that. but I myself do not like them and never will. If it meant paying to be a member of the forum it would not worry me one bit.
A selection of Belhaven vouchers can be sent to Keith and we promise never to show you the like button. Ever.
JF
-
Make the like button a link to Google adverts, might as well make 6p out of all this backlash ;)
-
Now....if only the Like button was working. I would have gave you a +1!
-
I have awarded virtual LIKEs to the following recipients on this thread.
Scunner
JohnF
Colwyn.
And iv'e given myself one. :)
-
"And iv'e given myself one"
Way, way too much information kevin3 :)
-
And iv'e given myself one. :)
Feel better now?
JF
-
Gosh!!! Don't know where all that came from, a real swerve in topic. I certainly didn't mean to stir up a storm. I was only commenting that I found the new button distracting as it was a bit big.
I like the Like button honest ;D and yes you are right I am now getting used to it and it will eventually become like wallpaper. Can't wait to start liking things :)
-
I wish I'd seen it and I could argue as well. But I haven't, so I've created my own.
-
Have just Liked you George :)
-
Sorry, managed to break the forum for a bit - should be back to normal minus the Chat facility.
Anyone finds any issues posting etc let me know.
JF
-
Can someone please tell me what happens if I click the " like" button. Where does my click go? How is it registered? Who can see how many "likes" each topic is getting. My clever wife tells me I am so "dumb" when it comes to things like this and she's maybe right. But Iam trying to learn :)
-
Personally I like the "Like" button. There's many a time when I think what someone has posted is really helpful and I would like to acknowledge it somehow - without the need for a post stating "Thank you" or "I agree" or such like. There's also many a time when I think "Wow, what a comeback!" and I also like that. I am not much of a poster but I do love to check in and have a read at the posts everyone else has taken the time to write. I'll definitely use the "Like" button and think it's a great addition to the forum.

At the moment it does not go anywhere....it is not working
-
when you have mended it, (and I love a like button, and am surgically attached to my facebook page) I would like a not like button as well please
-
Can we have a "not bothered either way" button as well !
-
yes, "like" that too!!
-
Can we have a "not bothered either way" button as well !
-
the man is a genius!
-
Surely we are not going back to the thumbs up, thumbs down game we had when the new look forum opened, we all know what a failure that was.
-
Quote from Steve (Reddin 44)

So if it was working then ? Where does all the info go?
and
Rimms Your just being silly now :)
-
My God it will show that the person who clicked it likes the post they clicked it in. It won't cost you anything, no info is extracted about you and sold to third parties and nobody will die. Dave you sound clinically paranoid, are you sure the internet is for you?
-

To those who mainly got thumbs down Des! Can't recall who that was now.... :)
Partly why there are no plans for a dislike button. Nothing to do with CBF or forums, just the negative traits of people when they can judge others while remaining anonymous. Not nice,
-
...and with that comment the like functionality is now working...
-
And I "liked" you for that :)
JF
-
What's all this like button about then
-
It's a device to allow gangs of chums to roam about supporting each other whenever they post - a bit like the Eurovision Song Contest, or people shouting "Rah! Rah!" and "Hear! Hear!". We're doomed, Captain Mainwaring, doomed!
-
I like that!
-
More than one damned swine has "Liked" my post thus devaluing its intended import which was obviously to be dislikeable. Pah!
-
You now have the most likes on CBF, your plan is doomed.
-
Errr scuse me mr scunner..but why aint I got a like button..is it cos nobody likes me :-[
-
You can't like your own posts - hence no like button for you
-
At least it gives me chance to have a grammatical tirade. My last post registers "1 people liked this". What the hell is this? 1 people? 1 people! It is "1 person" you bloody ignorant, uneducated, ill-programmed heap of software.
-
Is that better?
JF
-
:D:D:D
-
Agree 100% Keith, I myself and another certain lady who has been on CBF a lot longer than me, who nearly left because of the personal jibes, will be pleased to see our forum is not turning into facebook, you will have noticed too the automatic likes to your post. ;) ;)
-
It is not the intention to become more like Facebook I can assure you Des. A lot of good info is shared on CBF (unlike FB) and we have been looking for a way that members can show appreciation for a tip, piece of info, joke etc without having to post.
I agree the thumbs down was a disaster - I got quite a few and you wonder what you have to do or how much of your life you have to give to stop people being such a negative, born to take and give nothing bunch of anonymous cyberbullying heroes. People who meet you in real life and wouldn't say boo to a goose. Although in truth doing that is largely pointless.
-
You can't like your own posts - hence no like button for you
Except for me. I apparently always like my own posts. I am being victimized. Victim is the role of DesM. The system clearly doesn't work.
-
I got quite a few
Mostly from me.
JF
-
Well, I like the like button and I like all the like jokes it has created like the ones above liking each other - I like liking posts like.
-
I don't have a 'Like' button :-[
Nobody likes me :'(
-
My God it will show that the person who clicked it likes the post they clicked it in. It won't cost you anything, no info is extracted about you and sold to third parties and nobody will die. Dave you sound clinically paranoid, are you sure the internet is for you?
So if 20 members out of 100 members that made a reply or veiwed the post clicked the like button it would that mean the other 80 probably didn't like it maybe. I am getting to understand it now I think.
Whats a clincally paranoid person sound like then. :)
As for facebook it should be banned.
-
No it doesn't mean 80 didn't like it, it means that they didn't click 'Like'. Similar to when I like a programme on TV but don't write to the BBC to say so. To you I guess that means I didn't like it.
Just for you, here is a glass Dave, half empty.

-
Why do they say Colwyn liked them all?
-
JohnF's way of dealing with Colwyn's earlier comment disliking the new likes :)
-
Scunner why is it that you are getting 11 likes everytime you reply to something and Steve (Redding44) 4 whenever he replies to something. Whereas I dont have one like as yet, as dont many others. I'm not suggesting its fishy just wondering how its happening like that.
-
....because people like the comment?
I've liked yours Dave just so you don't feel left out
Also, just to clarify, the 11 likes that scunner has against his name (and the 4 on mine) are the TOTAL likes for all posts on every topic we have participated in, not just this one
-

It could be members like what I post and like what Steve posts and don't like what you post. Just thinking out loud here.
-
It should be banned then :)
-
All of these falsely attributed likes are ruining my CBF experience. I'll never be able to show my face in the Grumpy Old Men section again or I'll be thrown out for being ludicrously easily pleased and liking all of creation. Oh, the ignominy!
And no, "Colwyn did not like this".
-
Am I bein fick or somethink, why cant I see my 'Like' button? ???
-
Because you can't "Like" yourself*; only other people. The CBF hierarchy have set their faces firmly against narcissism which they regard as ideologically unsound and a degenerate social practice. (Very puritanical are the CBF administrators).
* Except for me as I am the subject of a vendetta by JohnF who has set the system to state that I "Like" any post that someone else "Likes" including my own. This is despite that fact that I "Dislike" everything. Including your post.
-
Think about it as a form of indirect therapy... and its free!
JF
-
Thanks Colwyn ........ I think 8)
-
I think if Colwyn continues playing with his new like button toy, this could end up being called the Colwyn- Beach- Forum. ;) ;D ;D
-
Can anyone tell me why I seem to be the only one on the forum who doesn't have a like button under my posts! It must be sexist, racist or ageist!! ;)
-
Everyone is the only one who doesn't have a like under their posts. For possibly the 15th time, you can't like your own posts!! And for the 10th time, it doesn't show on iphone/ipad.
-
Don't get your knickers in a twist, just a harmless mistake!!!
-
You are not the only one. There are quite a few. Indeed, a lot. In fact, everyone. Nobody has a Like button under their own post. This is because CBF Administrators are opposed on sexist, racist and ageist grounds to all other members of CBF. That's just the sort of people they are!
-
Exactly, as my mum says self praise is no recommendation. Or is it self recommendation is no praise.
-
Or is it, Praise is no Self Recommendation ?
-
I think it might be recommendation is no self praise. Doubt it though, to be honest.
-
We've got a like button on both our laptop and our I pad. Personally think it's a great idea. Enjoying the conversation around it as well.
-
I have the Like button on my IPad. So, I suppose this may be a new addition by the technical department of CBF ;D ;)
-
I have the Like button on my IPad. So, I suppose this may be a new addition by the technical department of CBF ;D ;)
The button has always worked on iPads/iphone except if you use the Tapatalk app to access the forum
-
Much prefer the blue button, thanks :)
-
I'm on Tapatalk, you all hate me !
-
I've changed some code to move the Likes Notification (at the top of the page) pop up box into a more central position.
Let me know if I've moved it too far or any other issues. I've tested it in the usual browsers but that's not always enough...
JF
-
OK in Firefox but right side/off screen in Chrome.
P.S. I'd tell you about Comodo IceDragon but that won't let me enter CBF at all.
-
Thanks Colwyn. As you've mentioned Comodo IceDragon I'm assuming you're using Windows - I've tested it with Chrome in Windows and it appeared fine, towards the right hand side of the screen but not "off screen". Can you try doing a hard refresh, Ctrl + F5 and see if that makes a difference?
I'll try getting on CBF with my copy of CID and see what the issue is.
JF
-
I did as instructed and it is now fully visible in Chrome.
-
Good!.
Out of interest, I'm posting this from CID. Site comes up and log in as normal, no issues.
JF
-
When I said that I was annoyed by the big like buttons. I was using my desktop which is winxp. I am now on my win 7 or 8 laptop which I rarely use and guess what? I cannot see any like or new buttons at all. On my win phone and on my tablet they are there but not on this laptop. Im not complaining as its great to be rid of them just wondered why they are not visible. Strange isn't it..
-
Forget what I just posted because after a reboot the bloody things have just appeared. I must be jinxed. :)
-
Oh well, never mind - its nice to know you appreciate the time and effort folks put in to improving the user experience on CBF.
JF
-
IceDragon now behaving itself - I had to call in the dragon taming lad. However, the notifications tell me that people have been "Liking" the wrong things. Could you do something about this while you are in your "improving the user experience on CBF" mood? I'm sure it would help in your application for sainthood.
-
Sorry, that mood disappeared along with any free time this week - and not too worried about the sainthood, got pre-approved for Canonisation a long time ago subject to the prerequisite number of miracles being performed.
JF
-
Would I be right in assuming you are well blessed John.?? ???
-
I have just noticed that you can only see the like button if you are signed in. So just letting you all know that.
-
I have just noticed that you can only see the like button if you are signed in. So just letting you all know that.
Yes, that's so only members can Like Dave, otherwise we are in danger of being flooded by anonymous spam/likes
