Liquid restrictions at Dalaman

That is true but Chinooks post implied that you could hide it in a suitcase then take it out in the terminal before putting suitcases in I think you may find you're self arrested for that. The security check at Dalaman is at the door.

At Antalya any drinks you take through are taken off you before you get on the flight as your bags get scanned twice.

grahamturner09:

The restriction is taking liquids onto the plane and as this leaflet says they shall not be allowed through the last security point.

I specifically referred to putting drinks for use in the airport in your suitcase to avoid officious staff confiscating at the entrance security.

As you might have come to expect, Dalaman was totally inconsistent in it's approach when we checked in for the Pegasus flight in the early hours of January 4th 2010.

We were the only International departure leaving the airport that morning and so it was very quiet at the front doors of the airport. Before I got to load the cases onto the scanner, the security guy asked me if I had any liquids, I admitted to a couple of bottles of water in our hand luggage, he told me that I nneded to put them in my hold luggage. I said that if I do that then I will take them out once past the scanner, he just shrugged.

As it was we were unable to transfer the water as we had cable ties securing the cases and so the drinks were confiscated, I could see that others had also had to give up their drinks at the front door.

We bought a bottle of water inside and it cost 4.5 lira, the same bottle in migros is 20 Kurus.

Waiting in the line to check into the departure gates, others around me said they had not even been asked a question about liquids at the front door, however, everone I saw carrying liquids had to give them up before getting through the departure gate scanner.

I will send Dalaman a complaint about the price of the water but I won't hold my breath waiting for a reply, let alone a change !

But on a more serious point than just the price of water inside the airport. The restrictions are there for a very good reason, the advice to transfer them to hold luggage knowing that the liquid can be retrieved once inside the airport is worrying to say the least.

We travelled back last Monday (4th), I had'nt realised that
they had implemented the liquid restriction so the trolley
dolly had a couple of cans of drinks in it, nothing was mentioned
as we entered the airport or as we boarded the plane.

I strongly dissagree with you. The Turkish Authorities obviously believe that a threat exists inside the airport itself as well as on the plane, if not, then why ever would they have the scan and security check at the front door as you enter?

If the rule is 'No Luiqid' past the first scan at the front door then a secuity guy telling you how to get around this worries me.

This is the leaflet on Ataturk Airport. Does Dalaman Terminal need more protection than Istanbul.

Trust you didn't exceed the spped limit on the way to the airport or bring in any bacon or pork sausages. ;)

You aren't making any sense, although your sneery footnote does.

His point is there is obviously a security requirement in place to ensure that any liquids that are brought into the airport are taken from hand luggage and put into hold luggage. This being the case, and it is, security personnel having no concerns at people immediately taking it from the it hold luggage and returning it to their hand luggage is concerning as it causes the initial check to be worthless.

It has nothing to do with Ataturk Airport, driving speed limits or bacon. I wonder if you would be so condescending if they were removing guns from passengers on one side of the security xray machine and handing them back on the other.

Not sneery and certainly not condescending but accept could be seen to be facile.

By there actions and inactions as reported on here it is clear that Dalaman security consider the second check to be the primary check and quite right too. This second check ensures compliance with the Turkish Authorities requirements as published and international security requirements which is to ensure that liquids taken onto the plane are severely restricted.

Taking your example the guns would not get on the plane and that is what is important.
