Thanks KKOB . I am not nitpicking but when I saw the word "huge" I thought I was missing a trick and something would come back in the future and bite me in the proverbial bum particularly as you clearly from other posts have a deep understanding of the Turkish ways.

On your specifics, I already own a car so no problems until I come to change.
The medical discount must be huge to compensate for the visa cost differential especially with the recent increase in residents visa costs
I have no intention of taking up Turkish Citizenship.

As you say each to his own and long may it continue.

marytheresa. Is there anything specific you are drawing attention to as I cannot see anything that has not been there for some time?

KKOB I would be grateful if you could elucidate what these are as apart from not being able to have a telephone in my own name and own a Turkish registered boat I haven't found any advantages apart from not having to make the run to Rhodes or Kos.

If you are living here with children who are not Turkish citizens, they cannot attend school unless they have a Residence permit.

However, Turkish citizens have to pay this fee up front when applying, and if unsuccessful in gaining a visa, the fee is not refunded. Also, if they apply for a 2 year, 5 year visa etc, the authorities may decide only to give a 6 month visa, and the difference in fees is again not refunded.

If you have a Residence Permit and your children attend full-time education in Turkey, they have to have one too, but theirs is free.(I think [?])

That's right KKOB...that was a new rule which came in last year, free redisendy for children in full time education, however, you have to get "Student" residency, which includes getting information from your child's school, and they permit can only be extended for 1 year at a time. Also a word of warning, they did try to charge us for my son's student residency last year, stating that as it was the first time we were extending his permit as a student, there would be a fee payable. I pointed out that when we previously extended the permit for him, and paid the full child price, we had included all the info now required for the student permit, and in the end they did not charge.

The way I see it is the way the the Turkish Government keep putting up the price of Residency Permits, it forces people who live here to go to to Rhodes or Meis , and save the hassle of running around everytime to get the same paperwork done, and in the year works out cheaper. Also It gives you a chance to get your duty free. Does anyone else feel this way?

Yes which is why I start to wonder if there are legs to the rumour of some months ago that the period of the Tourist visa was going to be severely restricted.:(

i would stop wondering chinook..the tourist visa will continue at £10 per 90 days for some time to come...that rumour of changing the rules has been doing the rounds for several years as has the price in crease for the visa..rumours are as they state just rumours spread by people who have nothing better to do than spread them.
