I booked my flights for October half term, many months ago, through lowcostholidays.  When they emailed me to say that I had lost the booking due to the collapse of Goldtrail, I was a bit surprised as I didn't even know that my flights had been booked through them!   :-\

After numerous phone calls, and emails, I finally managed to speak to someone at lowcostholidays who told me that I needed to write in with a request to cancel the holiday (rather than replace through lowcostholidays) and request a refund.  This I did, and within a few days, I received a letter from them advising me that a refund would be processed within fourteen weeks.

On my return from Calis last week, I was surprised to receive a booklet to complete (from lowcostholidays) to enable my refund to go ahead.  It warned that if any parts were completed incorrectly, my claim would not be valid, and once refused, we could not re-apply for a refund!  I carefully (!) completed it and returned it a day or so later.

I was a bit surprised over the weekend to get a phone call from lowcostholidays requesting the balance of my booking!  As we have flights booked for next year (but not with them) I was very confused and asked which date the booking was for.  It was for the Goldtrail flights in October!  (I originally paid two-thirds of the amount owing, with the balance due on 1st August, by which time, the company had gone bust!)

How can they make a mistake like this - ringing to request the balance of a flight when the company has gone bust!!!!   :o

The lady put me on hold when I asked why she was requesting more money for a company that no longer existed, and she never came back!!!!   :o

I had to download a claim form from the CAA website, fill it in with proof of payment and send to travelrepublic who were the ABTA bonded agent the flights were booked through. Travelrepublic filled in their part of the form and forwarded to CAA, that was a month ago. I await the refund and hope it comes sooner rather than later as I had to pay for other flights on my credit card.
If anybody receives their money back, could you post please.

I downloaded a CAA form myself, filled it in and returned it with proof of booking.
Got a letter last week from CAA saying it is being processed and should be done in 4 to 6 weeks.

Thats good news.  I guess the forms I filled in were the same, but downloaded by lowcostholidays with their part already completed.  I also had to send the original barclaycard statement showing when the payment had been made.

Fingers crossed we get the refund soon.  Like you Sue, I also had to book more flights on my credit card - it's looking pretty sick at the minute, with us losing so many flights over the past couple of months.  Though the Cyprus Turkish refund (through Barclaycard) came through much quicker than we expected.   :)

Can I ask how long ago you sent in your claim? Mine has been with the CAA for a month now and I have not had an acknowledgement yet. I would be quite happy if I had received the same letter. thanks .
:(Update- acknowledgement letter today. said it could be "several months" before the refund turns up do to the high volume of claims.:(

Hi. I got my letter yesterday saying that the money will be back in my account within 14 days. I claimed about a week after they went bust, as I had booked direct with goldtrail, I downloaded the forms from the CAA website.

Has anyone else had their money back from the goldtrail fiasco?  I filled in the forms etc at the end of august, but have had no acknowledgement of receipt of my letter.  It's been months now, and I still don't know if I will get my money back.  :(
