Yawn - here we go again - rumours !!!

Pete and I have just got back from UK after a break seeing elderly parents and surprise, surprise we have apparently absconded with/have misapropriated money raised for the children from the 2010 Carnival!

This is now becoming very, very boring as we have now heard this same rumour for the last 3 years and it is getting repetitive. We really wish that the people who are spreading these vile, ugly and malicious rumours would have the courage to stand up and face us, not only with their concerns but also with their evidence, so that we can have at least have the chance to respond to these slanderous accusations.  These rumour-mongers, whom we understand from our sources are sad ex-pats with nothing better to do than hide behind a bottle of Efes, are clearly some of the worst, cowardly representatives of the ex-pat population of the Calis/Fethiye area and should know better. In fact we feel ashamed to be associated with them.

As everyone knows, Calis Carnival is one of the few charities that is fully recognised by Fethiye Belediye  and one who issues a full set of professional public accounts which are fully audited by a professional accountant, as well as audited by the Fethiye Beleidye accountant.  Every lira, down to the last 1 kurus is accounted for and is itemised in the accounts attached to the annual report.  These reports can be viewed by everyone, in both Turkish and English, on our website www.caliscarnival.com. Hard copies are also available for those who do not have internet access.

As a result of these false accusations some of our great hardworking committee members (who are also being slandered by association)are feeling both saddened and disillusioned as these accusations reflect not only on them personally but also negate all of the hard work that they have put in over the last 12 months.

Despite these sickening  knockbacks the committee will continue to distribute the funds from the 2010 carnival as well as try to raise further funds for the children of the Calis/Fethiye area. Tomorrow Pete will be visiting one of the local poorer schools in the area to ensure that the equipment that they need has been ordered and will arrive as soon as possible. We also have applications for assistance from several other needy sources which will be considered at our next committee meeting.

To those who slander us or any of our brilliant and loyal committee, please come and meet with us and stop hiding, like the cowards that you are.

Its very disheartening when all you are trying to do is raise funds and awareness by legal means here and then people try to shoot you down, I run the Fig shop here and its doing well. Thanks to all our donators and customers,

Welcome to the club! I was banned from Turkey for life and one gossip even saw the paperwork from Ankara!

I too have been there and lived it and I know the thing to do is to ignore it but it's SO HARD when it's you and your reputation being pulled at by faceless strangers that you can't even confront face to face. If I can offer you one angle, that would be that you are damned if you do and damned if you don't so please continue to "do".

For one I have known you both for 6 years and I trust you one million percent with every last penny and every last kurus. I have a feeling there's a few more than just me  

Shame about the swear filter on CBF but the smiles the carnival brings both in the events themselves and the giving that follows make the opinions of faceless cowards (and there are many) who sit over their Efes day in day out irrelevant. So **** them.

I joined the Carnival Committee because I wanted to put something back into the community and to keep busy. It has been hard work but above all very enjoyable, when I hear comments, (not to my face of course) that we siphon off money, or Pete has had a new car, or we have nights out on the proceeds, I get very hurt and angry. After every event regardless of what time of day or night a number of committee members count every last lira. This is then taken to the Fetav office, for them to bank. Any collecting buckets we have are sealed and locked at the Belediye office and unlocked and counted by them and us together. In the few weeks leading up to carnival I estimate I put an extra 100tl of fuel in my car and about the same in credit on my phone, I do not begrudge one penny of this and I know all the other committee members did the same.
We now have 27,500tl to use to help local children in need (of which there are many) thanks mainly to the never ending work Pete and Chrissie do and the rest of the committee, and all the fantastic support we receive from most people in the area.
To those that choose to view everything through the bottom of a bottle of Efes please come forward with your evidence, face to face so we can "discuss" any issues you have.

I am really sorry to hear this although not particularly surprised.  Personally I have not heard these rumours but I know what some folk are like.  
They won't come forward and say it to your face as they are sad and pathetic.
Please believe me when I say that the majority of people think you all do a marvellous job and trust you 100% with money collected and decisions on how the money is best spent.
The carnival is always a fun day out and more and more people want to come to Calis when it is being held.  I think that says a lot!

Earlier this year there was that terrible tragedy when a lad whose mother had ended up in prison and could not look after her children because she was in debt for his education and was going to lose their house. He committed suicide. I don't know how the bursaries are given but it must take  a lot of strain away from families trying to educate their children to become an asset to Turkey and support themselves in a good job.

Same old, same old....petty jealousy by people that have nothing better to do and they are too cowardly to say anything face to face.
We have suffered the same here in Uzumlu with the same type of rumour's, from time to time, that we live our life on the money we collect for the kids, yet like you we keep accounts for FIG.
You do a brilliant job so please rise above it and see these low life's for what they are.
You all do a fantastic job.

As a committed member of the Carnival team, I think the folk who spread these vicious rumours are the type of people who would do this sort of stuff themselves........

Whatever nasty jealous people say it wont deter Mick and I doing what we do. We fully support Pete, Chrissie and all the team because ITS ALL ABOUT THE BLOODY KIDS and we never loose sight of this.
