getting to Rhodes

Can someone please tell me how long it takes to get to Rhodes by ferry and do we go from Calis or Fetiyhe? We would really like to go in August next year as friends of us will be on holiday there and we would love to meet up with them.Is it all quite simple to arrange and if we stayed over for a night or two is it easy to get a ferry back to Calis? Thanks as always in advance for any help.

You can get return tickets for the Hydrofoil from any of the trip organisers in Calis or Fethiye. We booked with FethiyeLovers in September but the transfer from Calis to Feithye didn't turn up so we had to get ourselves a taxi (the cost was refunded by FethiyeLovers). The Hydrofoil leaves from the Marina in Fethiye and takes about an hour (from memory). The cost of a return ticket was a£50 pp. If you want a window seat for a good view get there early. I've no idea about staying over in Rhodes but I'm sure others will have done this.

The ferry is now a catamaran rather than the hydrofoil (although they are using both at the moment as they seem to be having problems with the catamaran. Anyway journey time is an alleged 90 minutes however this can be as much as 4 hours if the sea gets a little rough.

Hydrofoil's not running now but a nice big Catamaran is.Takes 2 hours to get there and the same coming back if the sea's are smooth. YOu can book in Yesil Dalyan opp the Marina entrance.

We have been over a few times and stayed in an Hotel in Rhodes old town.  There is no problem as long as you are back to the ferry on time.  It cost a little more for an "open ticket" also when you arrive at the Customs in Rhodes they will open your suitcase. However, they will ignore you completely going back to Turkey.

Karennina,You were asking about a trip for August.At that time they will be using the Catamaran only,unless they have a seriously low booking number.The minimum number for passengers is 30,on the hydrofoil, but this is out of season. The hydrofoil is running now ,but only on fridays and will continue through the winter.Travel time on the cat is two hours in each direction and is not likely to be affected by weather due to its size.It should be running three days a week next season and you have to be at the dock by 8am.Return from Rhodes is 4.30 pm,be at the dock by 4pm.good luck j

Thank you very much for all the info, just one more question if we have bought visas on entry to Turkey do we need to purchase another one on entry to Rhodes and if so are they £10 the same as Turkey?

No visa requirements to enter Rhodes as it it part of Greece which is the EU.

Has anyone been on the day trip to Rodos in the winter...always understood they stoped running about the end of October.  As the old town is virtually a tourist enclave is it a ghost town in winter[?]
