William and Kate to marry

I can visualise it now.. if the `big` day falls in May / June next year, the turks will of course go overboard with their coverage on the tv`s in the bars  in Hisaronu, Calis and everywhere.... red white and blue balloons etc, bunting....fireworks... it would be a  similar scenario to that if we were appearing in a world cup final
( spare the obvious comments please ) as far as the turks are concerened.
But unlike a major footie match where its mostly males....with comments like "   hereally f*****g  squandered that goal scoring chance [:(!] " you will see hundreds of females grabbing the best seats/ tables and hear comments like " oh what a lovely bridal dress blah  blah  blah......

gonna be interesting and different [^]

Mike,

I thought Lambeth was part of The Crown Estate and not The Duchy. Even so - if he does own it then it's nothing to do with this discussion really. The Duchy of Cornwall is separate from Crown Estates (which is how the Royal Family is funded) and he pays something in the region of £3.5 mill per year (40%) tax on his income from the Duchy.

As Sleuth says - 'bring it on'. The country will benefit massively from tourism income as well as sales of all the tacky crap that will be made over the next few months.

One thing we do very well is pomp and ceremony and over 40 million people will watch it worldwide. What an advert for the UK! We will reap far more than it costs in monetary terms.

Only in the last few years have the royals agreed to pay the full tax on there earnings.
Lambeth is owned by the Duchy who are notoriously quick in rent rises but slow in updating the properties, they are nothing more than slum landlords.
It was your assertion that the profits from their london estates goes back to the government, in this case not so.
and I have strong objections to paying anything to these pampered ponces.

Mike, With due respect then, Lambeth has nothing to do with Crown Estates which is where the Queen gets her money from. So the argument that the tax payer will somehow foot the bill for this wedding has nothing at all to do with Charles as he is not yet King. Anyway if you look into how the estate works you will see that all the profit from the Crown Estate does go into the Treasury and the Monarch receives his or her money from the Civil List which is taken from the very same money:

Maybe we should agree to differ on this. You think you are paying and I think I'm not  :)

"nothing at all to do with Charles"

What do you mean, nothing to do with Charles, he's the lads father,  he should be footing the bill out of his own funds, not the civil list, however its made up.
I guess the real difference between us is that you see the royals as somehow beneficial to this country and I see them as parasites from a ever decreasing  gene pool.
As you say, once again we must agree to differ. ;)

I think he can afford to buy a round of drinks, at least.

Analysis of the data by the BBC shows Capita was the biggest private sector recipient of taxpayers' money - and that Prince Charles got a cheque from the Ministry of Justice for £667,000 - rent for Dartmoor prison, which is on his land. He was also paid £677,000 by the Army for access to Dartmoor.

The Queen will foot the bill for the Wedding but not the security on the day which will cost the Taxpayer twenty million pounds.
I also heard last night on Question Time that William who is being posted to Wales will not be living in barracks but have his own place and the cost to the taxpayer for security for this will be 1.4 million.  This on top of us paying half a million pounds a year for the security that Prince Andrew insists on having for his two daughters.

Who pays for the wedding and reception is immeterial compared to the cost of security for this wedding. The estimated cost of security for Charles & Dianas wedding was around 30 million GBP almost 30 years ago. According to the BBC yesterday the cost of security for William & Kates wedding will be aproximately 20 million GBP, and paid for by the taxpayer.
Sorry Jacqui, you beat me to it with your reply.

I bet all those who don't like the idea are left wing in their mind set, and were very happy at the cost to tax payers for Blair policies of the Dome, going to war in Iraq, using the queens flight more than any other government, bankrupting our country.giving in to and giving away british rights to Euro land etc. Come this should be a joyous occasion, and those who don't like it will have to lump it. that should get the blood flowing in certain quarters
