Boycot the Sunbeds at Guvens
« on: May 26, 2012, 12:38:56 PM »
For years now, long before anyone ever really ventured down to the far end of the beach, Carol & Guven have worked hard to build their business and attract customers. They were one of the first beach restaurants to go to the expense and trouble of providing sun beds on the beach which they offered free of charge.

Now that they have built up a loyal clientele, the council have come along and banned them from putting beds on the beach, plonked a load of their own for which they will charge you 15 lira for the use of 2 beds and one brolly. Carol and Guven have now bought a load of bean bag loungers for the beach and have arranged beds on their restaurant platform on the edge of the beach so you can still sunbathe as before.

Earlier we witnessed a council collector come along to Guvens and attempt to order people off the beach who were not sat on his beds, needless to say he was sent away rather quickly, especially when a guy of about 18 stone threatened to give him a smack.

Tourist numbers are dreadfull so far this year, is this the way to build those numbers? I don't think so.

Please continue to support Guven & Carol but avoid using the council beds if you can.

What a blood disgrace ! (pardon my French)[:(!]

Will certainly do anything we can to help support two of the nicest, hard working people you could hope to meet. :)

This year the local authorities seem intent on self destruction - it's a total disgrace :( and I would sincerely hope that nobody uses these "official" beds but that EVERYBODY continues to support Carol and Guven's restaurant - good luck guys

we spent some very pleasant days at Guvens last year and will be out for a total of 5 weeks this year. Over the years, we first stayed in Calis in 1996, we have used the council sunbeds for a lot of each holiday. Last year it all changed with the regular 'beach master' disappearing and a new crew taking over 'in the interests of the turtles'; the prices shot up & off we went to Guvens. We'll be back out there in less than 2 weeks and will NOT go near the council beds....you know, the ones outside all those restaurants on the front! We'll be spreading the word at our hotel too so the Orient, Nil and all the rest might feel the backlash from regular Calis holidaymakers.
WE will decide where to invest our holiday cash, not the local Gestapo. The locals need to remember that we Brits have come to Calis because we like a friendly resort, not one that dictates where we must sit & spend our hard-earned cash.
This really is a great shame.

Also don't forget that the local belediyes do not need to go scratching around looking for every opportunity to get money - the local councils are very wealthy indeed by Turkish standards. Such a shame they seem to want to throttle the area and squeeze every last kurus they can.

I hope they get what they deserve and everyone boycotts the council beds!

Carole and Guven have built up a lovely place and the council should not be allowed to take advantage of their customers like this.

If this moves up the coast to Koca Calis beach bars then there will be hell to play! Hopefully Ciftlik council have more sense.

Why will it affect the Sands Bar Anne, thats quite a bit further away then Guvens and probably comes under Ciftlik.  Every year between the Durnek and the Council they seem to want to sabotage the the torurist industry.........Hopefully the tourists will not pay this ridiculous fee and as usual plan z will fizzle out.

The Fethiye council beds seem to stop and go no further than Guvens. If they are imposing this restriction on Carol  & Guven then surely it follows that the same should apply to the Saat? Somehow I don't think it will.
