Tinks I didn't think people were being so negative a bit of tongue in cheek humour was how I read it.

Seriously though I'll be amazed if anything really new materialises; far more likely to be a re work of same old same old and when that doesn't work they'll close at the end of the season.

What Çaliş needs is a few people with a bit of gumption to specialise in something different that isn't in the end just what everyone else is doing. It's called finding a niche in the market; and then doing it really well. That usually means doing something you actually know and feel passionate about.

Then the other 56 restaurants can follow suit the following season.  ;)

I agree with you Bewva to a certain extent but this is the bit that I think is key and there aren't 56 restaurant owners that all know and feel passionate about the same thing (apart from making money).

But wouldn't it be great if there were numerous restaurants all specialising in the food from their regions; many owners aren't from Fethiye and every region has their own cuisine. You'd all want to try them out at least once and there would still be the steak and pasta and everything under the sun places for the less adventurous.

But we are talking of a place where two petrol stations can be found 50 metres apart, and someone comes along and uses that 50 metres gap to build another petrol station :D

When my children were small, they adored going out in the evenings when we were on holiday. There didn't have to be any special laid on entertainment, they simply loved the holiday atmosphere and the difference from everyday life. They'd wander round (close by) looking in souvenir shops and planning how to spend their holiday money.  Waiters fussed over them, they made new friends. They liked getting dressed up to go out for dinner and feeling a bit grown up. Invariably later they'd start dropping off and that was the signal to take them home - tired but happy. They still talk about how they loved it.

I agree so much with you Lotty - when our kids were two (ish) they loved it all - we used to sit having lunch while Falcon cut up their beans on toast or whatever and spoon fed them! "It will give you two some time for each other" he told us. We could let them wander around the prom and know that they were entirely safe - when they were a little older they would eat their food then wander off - sometimes returning with a bowl of ice cream and no idea where it came from.

But it is catering for all that will dictate the future for Calis - at the moment it's chicken kiev followed by a crooner or alternatively chicken kiev not followed by a crooner. The phrase "fun pub" can mean anything - and as some have already said could mean nothing.
