I thought the first three pages were negative  :) someone mentions a funpub opening and we mention hisaronou and marmaris, nobody wants it to turn into either of these places but an alternative option to what is available now would be nice.
We had the same fears at the mention of McDonalds/Burger King opening but I dont think its changed anything  :)

Well I wish them well, and I am sure everyone else does too as it's not easy setting up a new business in this economic climate.

Hopefully they have a good concept that people will like and no doubt we will hear all about it here either way    :)

Fair enough tink - but you still haven't told us what you would like to see and/or imagine will be in the establishment to make it "fun"

I also wish them good luck. I'm sure whatever type of place it is it will be OK for some and not for others. I also agree there needs to be something a bit different on the front in Calis but to be honest I'm not sure what it could be that would make us go there more than a couple of times over our two week holiday.

After going there for the last 10 years we have become a little choosy where we eat. Last year it was Fethiye once, Ciftlik once, Koca Calis twice, Guven's 3 times and Calis (Sat) once. I think we also had a late lunch/early dinner at Dawn Beach - plus a few 'stop offs' there for a drink or two on our way home as it's an ideal place to get a taxi from.

The other nights were spent at home either eating with neighbours or having a barbie. We sort of lost interest on the main strip a couple of years back due to the hassle when you walk down there and the fact they are all pretty much the same.

So in fact we never ate on the front once but at either end - Guven's and Sat. Never really thought about it until this thread came along.

Good luck! We will have a look in June when we go over.

Will be interested to read karaokemark's review of it and also check it out when the family's over in July.
Hard to specify what Calis really needs, those saying people just enjoy the holiday atmosphere are definitely right, B52 and Bus Stop etc. aren't quite the clubs I'm used to at uni or at home, but the guys themselves and the holiday vibe make it enjoyable.

One way to describe it is that Calis has a more laid back approach, more suitable to most people who want to relax for a couple of weeks yet have places where they can get to know the staff working at bars and have fun with them. On the other hand if anyone wants a crazy night out, Hisaronu is only over the mountain and provides the change of scenery.

It's what I like a lot about the whole area, many different things to mix your week up, should you go looking for it, but always the peaceful (almost) town of Calis to return to. Though I agree that whatever defines the 'fun pub' it should be adding more variety - and there's nothing wrong with variety at all  :)

Think we should leave the fun in Hisaronu plenty there for everyone.

As a lover of pubs, not bars masquerading as a pub, I have a list of requirements that I expect a pub to deliver, and fun aint one of them, and you can call me a miserable old sod and old fashion, but I know what makes a good pub and so below I have added a few of my list of requirements.

Serves proper bitter (essential)
Has both a saloon and public bar (and ideally a snug)
Is near to public transport (that runs late)
Is prepared for the occassional lock in
Where the bar staff give you a smile and hello, and a cheerio at the end of the night
The clientele changes through the day i.e lunchtime trade and early evening is made up of work people, evenings and weekends a mixture of young and old people out to enjoy themselves or get a break from the shopping.
Where people talk to one another, including people not in your group.
Where people laugh with you, not at you
Where you can be left alone to enjoy a pint in your own company, perhaps to read a book or paper, or if you choose to be open to the company of others
Where the ceilings are still nicotene stained, from years of decorating neglect, even though the smoking ban has been in for years!
Comfortable tables and chairs (no bar stools crowding the busy bar area)
Where the landlord serves complimentary bar snacks on a sunday lunchtime (including salty roast potatoes, jellied eels and other seafood, crisps and pork scratching)
Where live football games are shown with the volume down, except for special occassions like internationals, cup finals or when Arsenal are playing.
Clean toilets, but beer stained carpet that is NOT sticky
Where good Guinness is served
Attentive bar staff, who can add up the price of two pints of special, two G&Ts and a bag of dry roasted without the aid of expensive tills

That's my list for a good pub .. there's no fun about it, just good hopitality ....... but what would you add to this list
